"The 37's"
Production no. 820

Director: Jim Conway
Written by:
Jeri Taylor and Brannon Braga

"Am I leading the crew on a forlorn mission with no real hope of success?"
(Janeway)

Plot:  After finding a truck floating in space, the crew soon discover a human colony on a nearby planet. On further inspection, they find a group of people in suspended animation, among them the long lost Amelia Earhart. However, the crew begin to find themselves at home on the colony and Janeway begins to wonder if the long journey back home is really worth it.

Guest cast:

Sharon Lawrence ("Amelia Earhart")
David Graf ("Fred Noonan")
Mel Winkler ("Jack Hayes")
James Saito ("Japanese Soldier")
John Rubinstein ("John Evansville")

Some trivia:

*
David Graf previously played the Klingon Leskit in the DS9 episode "Soldiers of the Empire" .

Memorable scenes:

*
The scene where Tom scares the crew by starting the engine of the truck was rather funny.
*
Most of the scenes between the crew and the 37s are quite good, especially the scene involving the Universal Translator.

Some quotes:

"Captain, I think I should tell you I've never actually landed a starship before."
"That's alright, Lieutenant. Neither have I."

(Tom Paris and Janeway)

My comments:  I quite liked this episode. It was actually a rather good story and the whole Amelia Earhart thing was quite original. The guest stars were great in their roles, especially Sharon Lawrence (Ameila Earhart). It was also good to see Janeway having doubts about choosing to make a long journey back home rather than settle down on a planet in the Delta Quadrant. Watch it, it's worth it!
