Both Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FM) are
quite common invisible illnesses for which there is no known cause.

CFS is a serious and complex illness that affects many different body systems. It is characterized by incapacitating fatigue (experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina), neurological problems and numerous other symptoms.  CFS can be severely debilitating.  CFS is often misdiagnosed because it is frequently unrecognized and can resemble other disorders including mononucleosis, multiple sclerosis (M.S.), fibromyalgia (FM), Lyme disease, post-polio syndrome and autoimmune diseases such as lupus.  CFS is also known as Chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) and Myalgic encephalomyelitis (M.E.).

Persons with CFS  (PWC's) have symptoms which vary from person to person and fluctuate in severity.  Specific symptoms may come and go, complicating treatment and the PWC's ability to cope with the illness.  Most symptoms are invisible, which makes it difficult for others to understand the vast array of debilitating symptoms that PWC's experience.

Fibromyalgia (FM)  is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue.  Fibromyalgia patients experience pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons - the fibrous tissues in the body.

Most patients with FMS say that they ache all over.  Their muscles may feel like they have been pulled or overworked.  Sometimes the muscles twitch and at other times they burn.  In addition, they feel devoid of energy as though someone has unplugged their power supply.  The severity of symptoms will fluctuate from person to person, FM may resemble a post viral state.   For this reason, many experts in the field of FM and CFS believe that these two syndromes are one in the same.

These two illnesses (CFS and FM) affect both men and women of all ages as well as children/adolescents.
