Too Much Togetherness by Destiny "Where the fuck are we?" JC hissed, glaring at Lance. Lance shrugged, his usual way of dealing with JC's rants. "I have no idea. Just calm down." "You calm down," JC shouted, slamming his fist against the dash board. "I have to be in the studio by three. Three, Lance. Not three fifteen, not three thirty. Three." "I heard you," Lance replied, pulling off to the side. He grabbed the map and unfolded it, ignoring JC's hot stare. "Justin still asleep?" JC kicked his feet up on the dash and leaned his head back. "Who cares? When he's awake, he's just a pain in the ass anyway. Let him sleep." Lance stared hard at the map, muttering to himself. "I think we should go back, take this interstate, then get off on exit 19. That should do it." He folded the map up carefully, watching the creases. One thing he hated was maps that weren't folded right. "Can we go now?" JC snapped. "We're going already. Calm down." He pulled the SUV back onto the highway and made a U Turn at the next break. "Tell me why I put up with your shit again?" he asked, glancing in his rear veiw mirror. "Cuz, you owe me." "I owe you?" Lance asked, laughing. "How can I possibly owe you anything?" JC stared out the window, checking his watch. "I don't know, you just do." "Fuck you, I do not owe you anything." The red lights came from nowhere, and Lance's heart pounded. "Great! Cops. Justin, get up. Get up!" JC sat up straight and reached behind him to shake Justin awake. "Does he have anything on him?" JC asked, continuing to jiggle Justin's leg. Lance started to sweat, just a bit. He knew Justin had smoked some pot earlier, and prayed he'd had the good sense not to bring it in the car with them. He looked over his shoulder, growing nervous. "Justin! Get the fuck up!" he screamed, manuevering his SUV to the side. Justin blinked his eyes open. "What?" he growled, sitting up. "You got any weed on you?" JC cried. He hated Justin's little pot habit so much, and God help him if he got them into trouble with it. "Do you?" Justin smiled, still feeling the effects of the drug in his system. "I don't know," he grinned. "I think I used it up. Should I look for it?" Lance threw the vehicle into park and shook his head. "No, just stay quiet. Understand?" One thing Justin was known for and that was being loud at all the wrong times. He shot JC a look, pleading with him to keep their younger friend under control. The officer appeared at Lance's window. "License please," he requested, checking JC and Justin over. Lance pulled out his wallet, handing the card over. He was sure the officer could sense his jittery behavior and wished he hadn't offered to drive these two to the studio at all. He should have just stayed put, let them fend for themselves, but noooo, he had to be the good friend, always the fucking considerate one. The officer took the license and walked back to his car. Justin let out a loud laugh. "Mr. Friendly says hi," he giggled. "Shut up! I swear to God, Justin. I will kill you. Just shut up." Lance's eyes were on fire, angry that he was being stupid in the back seat. "Yessir!" Justin saluted. "I'll be real quiet." He looked at JC and rolled his eyes, digging in his pocket. "Ooh, I do have some left," he commented, tugging the plastic bag from his jeans. "Fucking put it away!" Lance seethed. "JC, do something!" JC punched Justin's leg as hard as he could. "Put it away, J, or you'll get worse at the studio." The look on his face made Justin shrink back like a frightened child. "Geesh, sorry," he mumbled, tucking the bag away. The officer returned quickly. "I pulled you over for making an illegal U Turn back there. You're clean though, so I'll let you off with a warning." Justin laughed again, causing the officer to look in the back seat. "Something funny son?" "Oh no," Lance spoke quickly. "He's just overtired. He's a singer, well, we all are, and we've been recording non stop." The lie was so well spoken, JC was impressed. Raising an eyebrow, the officer nodded. "Alright, just follow the road signs. They're there for a reason." Lance nodded and the officer walked back to his car. "Why didn't you ask him for directions?" Justin asked. Lance glared at him. "I'm going to kill you, dead," he grumbled, waiting for the officer to climb into his car before pulling out. JC shook his head. "Its almost three. Hurry." "Oh my God! Both of you! I'm doing you both a favor, now keep quiet." Lance gripped the steering wheel and pressed his lips together. "This is the last time, next time you take a fucking limo, or cab or something." "What's eating you?" JC asked, oblivious to Lance's temper. "Nothing, that's the problem," Justin cracked. Lance sighed. "I hate you two." "Naw, you don't. You love us," Justin said, leaning foward. "And you owe JC!" "Fuck off," Lance growled, glad he could leave both their asses at the studio, and planning to make them get their own ride home. Being without them wasn't so bad after all. That's what breaks are for. |
