Friends of North Plains SkatePark
5th Committe Meeting February 05, 2008 at 7pm
The meeting was called to order by President, Mike Broome at 7:05 PM. We were all thankful that the City Council had unanimously approved a temporary skate park in the north basketball area of Jesse May Park. We are now excited to go forward with our fundraising projects. Dave said he is not going to use the word "temporary" in defining the skatepark because the modular equipment that we plan to purchase will be able to be moved to the new future permanent skatepark, so he is going to call our current project a "modular skatepark" or "phase one skatepark". Mike said we currently have $3100.00 in the bank and a promise of another $2000.00 coming from a local business. (Robinson Construction just made a $2000.00 donation.) Dave announced that Leona was going to attend an upcoming 2-Day Grant Writing Workshop in Hillsboro for the purpose of learning how to write grants to raise funds for our cause. Ruth Heckman, who is Mike Broome's neighbor, was in attendance and shared a fundraising idea she had for selling flower bulbs for this spring planting. She said she had done this previously and it was a good fundraiser. We would make $2.50 for each $5.00 sale. She said she would be willing to be in charge of this if we wanted to do it. It was decided we would go forward and begin it February 15 thru March 15. Ruth and Glenn would be co-partners in the planning and organizing. Leona would get an updated list of all the meeting attendees with phone numbers if possible so they could be contacted to ask for their participation in selling. A future meeting would be scheduled by Ruth to instruct everyone participating in how to sell the bulbs. Brian will notify the community of this sale in the tax bill newsletter. PIZZA DAY FUNDRAISER Geraldi's Pizza Parlor here in North Plains has agreed to give us 20% of all sales on Sunday, March 9th. They request that people tell them they are supporting Friends of North Plains Skateboard Park when they order that day. Leona will make flyers to post around town advertising this. Brian will also put this in the water bill newsletter. COOKBOOK The Cookbook was discussed and it has been decided to have it ready for sale in May during our North Plains Garage Sale Days. Kathleen says we still need more recipes. Dave said he and Mary would like to see some of the history of North Plains included in the cookbook and he is planning to contact someone about that information. CAN COLLECTION--BLUE BARRELS Glen and Dave said there are 5 Big Blue Barrels stationed around town to collect cans and bottles. Donations have been very good for this. Brian will let people know to look for these barrels in the tax bill newsletter.
