Present Memories is scored for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Piano and Percussion (Tibetan Singing Bowl and Vibraphone). It was completed in July 1998 and premiered at by the HELIX! Ensemble at Rutgers University in the Fall of 1998. It was performed again in Cincinnati at Music99 in the Summer of 1999. The piece is in a modified five-part Rondo form. There are two main sections of material; each is subdivided in two. Separating these two sections are two further blocks of material that serve both as transitional material and formal markers. The work as a whole gradually explores and integrates the main sections (as well as the transitional material, although to a lesser extent) over time to form a comprehensive melding of seemingly disparate materials. |
