A lecture class which introduces students to the rudiments of music theory: note-naming and octave designations, intervals, scales, key signatures, modes, triads and seventh chords, non-chord tones, rhythm and meter. Some sections taught included interactive web-based instruction. A department-designed web site containing many exercises dealing with music fundamentals was used for most of these sections’ homework assignments. The site is also a useful study aid, as it has drills to help hone skills and prepare for exams. The web is also used to post such things as class announcements, syllabi, and answers to non-graded homework assignments.
