It really really really could happen...
Morals from a Different Universe
2236H 30 September 2003,Tuesday

Been reading quite a fair amount of comics lately. Mostly borrowed from the Library@Orchard. Renee got me JLA/Avengers mini-series #1, but I haven't opened it yet. Trying to preserve it for as long as I can. Will get round to reading it soon. But that's not my point.

You know, comic as an art form has evolved over the years. So too, has comic as literature. Used to be a time when comics were just for people to get some cheap laughs, or mindless entertainment. Then the super-heroes came into the scene. It then became a tale of good versus evil. The good guys always win.

Yet as the quality of the art in comics became bettre, so too did the stories. Stories that were told in a few pages of pictures, became mini-series, became long epics. The underlying theme of good against bad, became much more. Comics began to talk about prejudice, morality, love, responsibility, and other deeper issues.

I have always loved reading comics. First, I was drawn to the graphics of comics in the late 80's and 90's. Lately, after getting to read back issues, and being slightly more mature than a teenager, I started to appreciate what the comic book writers of the modern era try to say through the comic book medium. True, good still always prevail. But nowadays, black and white ain't that clear cut anymore.

Why am I rambling on about comics? Today, I was struck by the theme of responsibility, as I was reading about the "birth" of the 3rd generation Green Lantern. He was just a regular slacker, until fate bestowed upon him the power ring. He then went on to learn a painful lesson about responsibility.

I'm drawing a parallel with my life. I confess to being a slacker. But my slacking in recent times has screwed me up big time. And the worst thing is, my screwing up doesn't just affect me, but may also affect others around me. Just how much others will be affected is beyond my control at the moment. What I can do now is only to try to do what I can do right now, and hope that things will turn out fine in the future. Like many, my world isn't a bed of rose. Like many, I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth (just my tongue). Like many, I gotta start taking control of my life.

I gotta start getting better acquainted with responsibility.

I know myself. I get into something, but I get out as soon as I stop feeling any push or pull. Self-discipline is not one of my strong-points. I need people to kick me in the ass sometimes. As anatomically-difficult as it may be, I'd better learn to kick myself there once in a while.

I think I just did today. Sigh.

A True Tale
1340H 28 September 2003,Sunday

This apparently actually happened in Singapore. An ang moh was admitted into hospital, complaining of an upset stomach. When the doctor opened him up, they found a hamster in his intestines. It went up thru the ang moh's ass.

The sick bastard!

What I would like to know is whether the hamster survived...

By the way, I got myself The Darkness' album. Rocking tracks! And I got it relatively cheap, coz I got a $10 HMV voucher at Heeren, for using the Citibank Clear Card. Plus a $5 Marche and a $10 Sakae Sushi voucher. Citibank really knows how to pamper its customers with freebies...

A Shining Darkness
1220H 25 September 2003,Thursday

3rd entry in a day. Wow.

Anyway, i was watching the Reds play their UEFA cup tie last night (1-1 at the end), when at half-time, I switched over to MTV and saw the video for The Darkness' "I believe in a thing called love". Damn hilarious! They totally camped it up and was so funny imitating the "stadium rocker" style... I was smirking away as I watched the video. These guys really dun take themselves too seriously, which is so refreshing.

Oh wait, maybe they were taking themselves seriously? Bleah...

And tada! a perfect example of a typical blog entry here... Whatever...

Bathroom Inspiration
0102H 25 September 2003,Thursday

Just thought of/realised this while showering...

How to write a typical blog entry here:

[Insert optional opening line/greeting]

[Insert long/short/funny/boring/whatever story here]

[Insert ironic/funny/witty/corny comment about above story here] [Insert "Bleah"/"Yeah"/"Whatever" here] [Insert "..." here]

Greetings to Someone
0024H 25 September 2003,Thursday

Went Hideout again, and I finally made contact with Ms CherryBombPress. Actually have seen her around before, but couldn't be sure it was her, plus I was afraid she'd bite... hard. Anyway, it was nice to meet her, and she was spinning some of Astreal's music at Hideout. They sounded good. We both lamented about the pathetic state of local music. And when I say local music, I mean the struggling english bands, not the Stef Suns and Tanya Chuas. It'll take a while before local bands make it big. But someone has to make a start... Yeah well I'm rambling... Bleah.

Anyway, it just occurred to me how dumb it is to say I'm 25 going on 26. I mean, I can't possibly be 25 going on 27 or 28, can I? Unless my birthday is 29 February, then I can say I'm 25 going on 29. Yeah, whatever...

Away from Dismay
0137H 23 September 2003,Tuesday

I got myself the Dragon Ash album "Harvest" a few weeks ago. Very good listening, great beats and energy. Some tracks make you feel energised, some lull you into calmness. Some do both.

Now if only the lyrics can make more sense. I mean, it's tough enough trying to understand spoken japanese, imagine japanese rapped drum n' bass style... sheesh...

Thank God for lyric booklets. I do like this line from Canvas though: "I may have found a way to finally run free by the way I sing"

Wish I had some way to run free too...

Monday Blues
2119H 22 September 2003, Monday

You know it's a bad day when you wake up in the morning to a call that doesn't bring cheer, and then find that you didn't sleep in a good position the night before and end up having a nagging pain in the back between your neck and shoulder. Yup. Bad day. Hope tomorrow brings more joy...

Wet, dry, wet, dry
0115H 22 September 2003, Monday

Weather's been quite erratic these few days, eh? One moment, it's hot like hell, and next, it's storming away. I'm just glad the rain didn't ruin this morning's soccer.

Speaking of soccer... 3 wins on the trot for the Reds, and they're back up there near the top of the table. Things are literally on the up...

Anyway, didn't really do much this weekend. Bobby and James went for their manicures though... Did I mention that I bought leashes for them? Dad has been trying to get them to get used to being on the leashes, but they both absolutely hate to be tied up. The other night, I put the leash on Bobby for Renee to see. When we placed Bobby on the floor with the leash, he simply refused to move. Not even when we tempted him with food, and mind you, he's a real glutton. The moment we removed the leash and put him back, he was bounding around. Damn cheeky, he...

No Rain is my Gain
1928H 19 September 2003, Friday

No rain today, in fact, quite sunny. Good chance to hop over (take bus, actually) to Sentosa, apply for the discounted Islander card (Hurry, valid til erm... sometime soon), and catch some sun with Renee.

Sorry, no pics of us in our swim-wear... Bleah...

Rain is such a Pain
1201H 18 September 2003, Thursday

Rain big big. Butt wet wet. Poor Bobby and James are huddling in the little shelter I made for them. They look so frightened yet so cute, they're both facing out of the shelter. Too bad my camera not with me right now...

Hiding from the Demons
0027H 18 September 2003, Thursday

Just came back from Hideout at Boat Quay. Apparently they play indie music on Wednesdays, but after a while, they kinda moved towards more trippy, loungy stuff. But I enjoyed it while it lasted. Nice cozy pub. I will go back again some day...

Anyway, moved the Hong Kong pics here, to cut down the loading time on this page. How thoughtful of me.

Bla Bla Black Sheep
1802H 16 September 2003, Tuesday

So I've put up the links for the rest of the stuff on my blog. But dun bother going to any of them if you've been a frequent visitor. Nothing you haven't alreay seen...

Leaving on a Jet Plane
1231H 16 September 2003, Tuesday

Weiliang left this morning for Iowa for a year... Gonna meet a lot of cows, and see a lot of fields. But not before killing us at the mahjong table right before he left... haha Now I have to wait a while for revenge...

While on the subject of flying (OK, not exactly on the topic, but whatever), here's some pics from me Hong Kong trip a few weeks back.

And still on the topic of flying, just watched Smallville, and did you ever notice that this season, Clarke seems to be always wearing clothes that are blue and red? The same colours as his Superboy costume... Hmm... Anyway, even though Lana is the chio one in the show, I think Chloe has more style. She seems to be putting on weight though...

End of a Century
0145H 12 September 2003, Friday

Goodbye, Stardust, Hello Bettlebum...

I'm back, more blur than ever... It's been a pretty good break, and I have actually been waiting to get back to blogging. It's just that I did change my hard disk, and I've only just managed to get my Dreamweaver and Photoshop back... So here I am again, to bore you with mindless ramble, and aimless rants... All in the name of science... Whatever...

Shall I update you on what I've been up to these past few weeks? Well, lets see... I will not go into my personal life... Those who I would tell should know by now, and those I won't tell will still be kept in the dark. Highlights of my break? I took a trip to Hong Kong, and enjoyed myself. First time on a plane in years... Erm... I also picked up sky-diving, and attended the Mardi Gras... Just kidding... Bleah...

Well, other than that, I'm still alive and kicking. Not much has changed really. Except that I've grown a few centimeters... Again, kidding...

Ok, so the layout kinda sucks and the rest of the links and stuff are not up yet. But I'm gonna take my own sweet time over it. Any complaints, just leave it in the friendly comment-box below... Bah.

As you can see, I'm still full of crap. So watch out, world, I'm back!
