Chinatown trippin'
Thursday 30 Jan 2003 0045H

Went to Chinatown for Frogs' Leg Porridge and a little look-see at the festive markets... Basically the same stuff everywhere, repeated at regular intervals... i.e. same stores selling decorations, goodies and other CNY must-haves... good thing it isn't the weekend tonight, else the jam would have been much worse...

Actually, I think it's more interesting to visit Chinatown during the non-festive period... you get a better feel of the place, and there's better bargains to be found...

Time flew by like a bee on speed
Wednesday 29 Jan 2003 0156H

Phew... long time since I last sat down in front of my comp to ramble, and yet, when I do have the time, I have nothing really much to talk about for now... But, I do have a few things to say which I don't really have that much to say about... So, in no particular order:

James just moved in with my family. My parents are smitten over him, and Renee thinks he's a cutie... I'll try to put up some pictures if I can.

The warm chocolate cake at Baker's Inn is heavenly. But still remember to stay clear of the food dishes for now.

Saw Taiwanese boy band B.A.D. while I was at Baker's Inn with Renee. They were having an interview with some magazine. Who are they? I have no idea.

Before Radiohead came to be known as Radiohead, they were called "On a Friday" That name was thought to be lame, hence the change before their first album.

Liverpool finally won 2 games in a row after 2 months.

I need to go get more disposable contact lenses... I'm down to my final pair that will last me 2 weeks.

Wondering what Loe did on Saturday...

My magix connection has gotten really screwy. I need to restart my computer a few times before I can actually get on the net lately... Time to move on perhaps?

I really need to update more often...

Oh, and heard this just now over drinks... Dawn's mum's friend's vet recommended masturbating her pet dog when he was getting too horny and embarassing in front of the guests...

Zejun later corrected her that masturbating meant self-service. Perhaps a better word to use would be handjob...

It gives a whole new dimension to the term "doggy-style"

Dances with Creeps
Tuesday 21 Jan 2003 2348H

Excerpts from an interview with Radiohead in 1996:

Ed O'Brien (Guitars): There was a great one about a couple of years ago when we were in some gig up in the north of England, and one of the P.A. guys accused us of nicking a D.I. [direct audio signal injection] box. This guy's huge, he's taller than me, about six foot seven, and twice as wide.

Thom Yorke (Frontman/Guitars): Like a fucking psycho.

O'Brien: And basically, Thom says no. [The soundman]'s still giving us the hassles, so Thom tells him to fuck off, and looks up at him with a mean stare. So this guy gets Thom by the neck...

Yorke: He pinned me against the wall.

O'Brien: ... and Phil [Selway, drums] and I had to take one arm each of this guy and try to wrench them off.

Yorke: I didn't tell him to fuck off.

O'Brien: Yeah, you did. I think that was the problem, really.

Jonny Greenwood (Guitars/Keyboard): It was.

Yorke: Well, all right.

O'Brien: [Laughs] Considering he was upset anyway.

And here's the Radiohead poster I was talking about that I really liked:

And here are some really excellent, and mildly amusing, photographs from the English Premier League over the last 10 seasons... Got them from this site

Andy Cole in Swan Lake

Marcus Babbel and Alan Smith in a Tango
(Think Renee will like this one)

Peter Schmeichel in Superman VI

Kopites doing the Macarena

La la laa...

Sunday Floody Sunday
Sunday 19 Jan 2003 2043H

Went to the Flea and Easy at Zouk in the afternoon. The place was packed full with stuff and people selling their stuff and people trying to search through tons of stuff to look for stuff they wanna buy. People were smoking in there too. The whole place ended up being very stuffy...

Didn't pick up anything for myself, although I did see a few Radiohead concert posters that were really cool. But the guy who was selling them was asking for prices in the ranges of hundreds... He claims they are all original and some are limited edition prints. Would be neat to get a couple to hang up in my room, but I guess its too much of an extravagance... Anyway, I signed up with his mailing list coz he's starting an online business to sell such stuff... Just in case I feel extravagant enough someday...

Just finished my dinner, and my dad was just in the kitchen cleaning up, and whistling along to the Chinese New Year songs being played on the radio. All of a sudden, he let rip a resounding fart... Thank God I'm in my room...

It's been raining almost every Sunday for the past few weeks, but luckily, it hasn't affected the Sunday soccer games too much. Rain on a Sunday is so ironic...

Heskey Header Halts Rot
Sunday 19 Jan 2003 0333H

Finally! A Premiership win for Liverpool after 11 matches without collecting 3 points. The Reds totally dominated the first half, and was rarely troubled in the second. At least half a dozen good chances for Liverpool to score, but in the end, a Heskey header off a Riise freekick was enough to settle the game and win the points. I'm glad Liverpool was not made to pay this time for the chances not converted. Go Reds!

Before that, met up with Eugene, Alvin and Zai for dinner at Chinatown Point. There was a lot of people in Chinatown today. I say again, a lot. Phew! I think I'll choose to go back on a week night to visit the CNY bazaar.

Code Red
Saturday 18 Jan 2003 0033H

And Liverpool takes on an in-form Southampton tommorow. Winless in 11 leagues matches, Liverpool is in, quite frankly, relegation form. Thank goodness for the early season points picked up!

Every one in the other teams Liverpool faced are saying that the Reds will come good and rediscover their form. Too much quality in the Reds squad, but before every game, the opponent will back Liverpool to go back to winning ways, but hope that they are not at the receiving end of the Liverpool backlash...

For the last 10 games, every team has gotten what they hope for...

Now's the time for Liverpool to really turn it on...

One player sorely missed throughout this bad spell - Didi Hamann. Somehow, without him, the midfield loses its bite, and the defence is more exposed. Salif Diao has tried to fill in for him, but somehow, he does not play in the style that the midfield and defence has come to expect from a player in Hamann's role. Hope he comes back to action soon...

On other matters, my Saturdays this semester will start off with a tutorial from 8 to 9am, followed by a 1 hour break, then a 2 hour lecture... I have not had any Saturday lessons in ages... This arrangement totally sucks. 8am on a Saturday!?!? What's worse, I can't get out of this arrangement, coz it's a compulsory law module...

Justice is blind.

Tolkien of Appreciation
Friday 17 Jan 2003 0227H

Took a The Lord of the Rings test. I am most like:

Legolas, Son of Thranduil

Legolas knows his way around in the world, with a keen understanding of nature. He is often oblivious to the pain and fatigue of his activities.
Though reserved, you excel in aesthetic endeavors. If a mountain is there, you will climb it. Time alone is important and solitary activities refresh you. You have good observational skills. While providing compassion and being considerate, you may have the tendency of being soft-hearted or even "too emotional" You like keeping your options open. Closure is probably not one of your strong suits.

Like Boromir, you are not content to sit on the sidelines while the action takes place around you.

Traits: Open minded, easy going, persuassive, optimistic about the future. On the dark side you could be exploitative and an opportunist.

Close enough to what I'm like, I guess, including the exploitative part... I am quite good at arrowing people...

Greater Cause
Thursday 16 Jan 2003 0153H

Watched Hero. You know how some movies look so good in the trailers but turned out to be horrible when you watch them? Well, Hero more than lives up to its trailer. In fact, besides the spectecular scenes that I expected from watching the trailers, the storyline totally blew me away. It is definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Forget the comparisons to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero is not just a Kung-Fu flick, it is really an intriguing movie that reveals more and more as the story unfolds, and the thematic twist towards the end really struck me. That's when it became more than a Kung-Fu flick. Watch it.

I also watched 2009 Lost Memories. Though not as impactful as Hero, it is nonetheless an enjoyable show, though it does take a certain suspension of belief to tolerate the plot twist near the end. I think girls may like it for the "cute" actors. Not much eye candy for us guys to ogle at though...

On a lighter note, saw this from a mass mail from a friend:

One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the part of the story where Chicken Little tried to warn the farmer.

She read, ".... and so Chicken Little went up to the farmer and said, "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

The teacher paused then asked the class, "And what do you think the farmer said?"

One little girl raised her hand and said, "I think he said: 'Holy Shit! A talking chicken!'"

The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.

Hilarious!

Beer-thday Celebrated
Tuesday 14 Jan 2003 1353H

Went to Holland V last night for a beer session to celebrate both Jeremy's and my birthday. Attendees, besides the 2 of us, are Loe and Kwek.

First, dinner of Katong Laksa and otah. Followed by 0.5ml of Erdinger at Baden-Baden. Topped off with a jug of Stella Artois shared at the lounge in Wala Wala where the live band played a nice acoustic set. Totally enjoyable night. To tell you the truth, the Erdinger was enough to make me feel quite high... It was good stuff indeed!

Well, reading this entry may be boring for you, but the night was pleasant for me. So there.

Renci Relief
Monday 13 Jan 2003 0253H

On New Year's Day, me and my mahjong kakis played a Mahjongathon to raise funds for the Renci Charity drive by MediaWorks. However, after 1 round, Kevin succumbed to indigestion and had to call it off. Since he had no available substitute, the match was abandoned. However, a total of $20 was raised for Renci.

So I made 2 calls to the Hotline yesterday on behalf of our Mahjongathon gang, and today, I made another call to donate on my behalf. All 3 times, my calls were answered by Lynn Poh, one of the hottest babes in local television. However on all 3 times, just as I was about to talk to her, she hung up the phone on me. How "dao!"

Anyway, my hair is now short and yellowish. I like...

Sami Sami Quite Contrary
Thursday 9 Jan 2003 0125H

Ok, something I want to share with all Liverpool fans out there... A song about Sami Hyypia, sung by the Anfield faithfuls:

Sung to the tune of the 'Addams Family'

In our defensive foursome
He's absolutely awesome
From corners he will score some
It's Sami Hyypia!

Haha! Found it both hilarious and apt...

Gosh, the rubbish bin in my room is so full of used tissues!

For my running nose lah, u pervs!

Coming around
Thursday 9 Jan 2003 0015H

Felt well enough to go out today, so I met Renee in town. Wanted to go get my hair cut, but, Debbie, who I always go to, was off today. She used to have her off-days on Mondays, so I was caught by surprise. Renee laughed at me for not making an appointment before-hand, but... How was I to know?

Anyway, I get my hair cut at Reds at Plaza Singapura... Wanted to get it coloured too, since I have a 25% discount voucher, courtesy of Singtel. Part of my "Birthday Package" from them... I'm a faithful Singtel user, as well as a faithful customer of Debbie... Yeah, so I get my hair cut at Reds... so I'm hiao... So? Big deal! :P

After that we went to the new Baker's Inn at the Atrium@Orchard for dinner. One piece of advice to all: Try the pastries, cakes, and beverages by all means, give the ala carte dishes a skip. Hell, there must be some reason they are called "Baker's" Inn and not otherwise, right?

Caught Gangs of New York after that... We were late for the show, coz of over-indulgence at the arcade next to the cinema. We gave 15 minutes allowance for the commercials and trailers. Apparently there was none...

Anyway, the show was quite well-filmed. The attention given to make-up and sets and props created a real feeling of how New York could have been in those days. However, the plot is rather disappointing. Expected more from it.

Well, at least there was plenty of breasts flashing around...

Gonna catch the Liverpool vs Sheffield United League Cup Semi-finals later at 4am, then I'm finally gonna go down to school tomorrow. It's about time...

Healthy shit
Wednesday 8 Jan 2003 1401H

Watched Dark Waters on VCD yesterday... alone in my room, all by myself... Was wondering whether I would get the shit scared out of me...

Well, yes and no... No, coz it wasn't as scary as I expected it to be... Yes, coz I've been going to crap quite often since yesterday, though I think it's more probably due to the fact that I'm still recovering from my infection...

Man, it's terrible being sick! I've drunk nothing but water for the past 3 days, and ate nothing but healthy non-fried stuff... My existance has been pretty bland in gastronomical terms...

Anyway, I've been off smoking since Saturday... Partly due to the fact that I'm sick... also partly due to the on-going efforts to cut down on cigarettes... From now on, I'm trying to only be a social smoker, ie. smoke only when people around me are smoking...

Damn, am I healthy or what?

Something New... And it goes a little like this
Tuesday 7 Jan 2003 1733H

Every year, when the New Year comes about, I'm reminded of my birthday. This year is no different...

In case you don't already know, my birthday is 4 Jan, and I had a great time this year at Altivo with some of my closest pals. Yeah, there was the usual drinking, and they made me drink until I puked... Something that hasn't happen to me in a long long while. And while I was being served my Waterfall, the Bartender spilt some onto my hair, and my hair caught fire for a while! The smell of burnt hair lingered even on the next day! It was memorable alright...

Belated Birthday presents are still welcome. Why wait til next year?

And so the new year starts and school got off to a bang with me staying home sick with an infection. Lucky me... and just when I was so looking forward to going for lectures... haha

And so, all cooped up at home, I finished reading The Lord of the Rings. Quite an achievement, and I must say I enjoyed the book...

Well, with Liquid2k not doing anything about their service, I think I will just stick with Geocities for the time being... You will just have to bear with the ads. They don't really do much harm anyway, do they? Nnew layout will take some time to fully kick in. In the meantime, don't poke around too much, all you may break your nose...

Ok, by now you must be bored of reading all this boring stuff... so tell you what I'm gonna do...

I'm gonna stop here.
