Risky Business
Thursday 20 Feb 2003 1851H

Got this via email from Amy:

A sign at a business establishment in Philadelphia, PA: WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 AL QAEDA TERRORISTS THAN WITH A SINGLE AMERICAN"

This sign was prominently displayed in the window of a business in Philadelphia. You are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory statement. One would think that anti-hate groups from all across the country would be marching on this business... And that the National Guard might have to be called to keep the angry crowds back. But, perhaps in these stressful times one might be tempted to let the proprietors simply make their statement . . . We are a society who holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty... And after all, it is just a sign. You may ask what kind of business would dare post such a sign?

A Funeral Home (Who said morticians had no sense of humor?)

You stole the sun from my heart
Tuesday 18 Feb 2003 0312H

Spent a weekend in Sentosa with Renee. Stayed at the Beaufort, lazed at the beach, watched 3 West Highland Terrier pups enjoy themselves in the sea, 2-person BBQ at the beach in the evening, long hot bath, nice humongous comfy bed, lazing around with nothing but a bath robe on, leisurely breakfast, meeting the Dalai Lama... Wonderful life! If only everyday could be spent this way...

And not forgetting James and Bobby. They went for their pedicures on Sunday, and also spent some time at the spa. Lucky them, eh?

I think I shall be shopping for my digital camera soon. It'll probably be a Sony P-7...

Sunny Disposition
Monday 10 Feb 2003 0051H

What a Sunday! Spent the morning and early afternoon with Renee, James and Bobby, then went for a smashing evening of soccer. Followed by watching Man City fight back against Man U with the guys, laoing Yusheng, and coming back from $16 down to be up $4 in the last game of blackjack. A real contented Sunday it was for me.

Only problem was, I didn't make enough money for my cab fare back! Waah...

Sexual Awakening
Sunday 9 Feb 2003 0145H

Horror of horrors! After I brought Kimberly home, I found out that she's actually a He! Oh Gawd! And to think that James was hitting on him and trying to get it on with him most of the evening.

After we all realised Kimberly's real sex, it seems that James the one who is getting hit on... What a Monster!

Now we know. Kimberly's real name is Bobby. In fact, he has the same last name as James: Brown.

FA Cup Fuck Up
Thursday 6 Feb 2003 1719H

Ever since I got cable TV and signed up for the Liverpool website e-season service, I've been trying to follow every game that I can. I practically caught every game that can be caught on TV or on webcast this season. Last night, or rather early this morning, I saw Liverpool play fantastic football, but in the end got sucker-punched out of the FA Cup by Crystal Palace. The Reds had chance after chance, but were let down terribly by the lack of the killer touch in front of goal. Glorious chances were missed. Then Henchoz finally scored his first goal in a Liverpool jersey, sadly, it was for the other team.

I agonised over every missed chance, just as I had over the bad run this season. And I still will for the rest of the season and beyond. But I really hope that being out of the FA Cup will prove to be a blessing in disguise, and that Liverpool will salvage the rest of the season. I do not want to be feel the distress any more...

But I will not stop supporting Liverpool no matter what...

Am I nuts? Nah... Just a bit crazy...

Ang Pow Anxiety and other Pet Peeves
Thursday 6 Feb 2003 0211H

How much is the amount in your ang pows? Some people get ang pows with hundreds in them. Some have to collect lots of angpows to reach a hundred dollars. Some hardly get any ang pows in the first place...

I don't recall ever getting any ang pows with more than $50 inside... and I don't have that many relatives to collect from, so whenever I get a $50 ang pow (typically from my parents), it becomes a huge percentage of my overall takings.

Of course, I'm talking in Sing Dollars here... Hmm... maybe if i go somewhere else like China, I can start talking about my ang pow takings in the thousands at least...

Then again, I am 25, and do feel a bit paiseh taking ang pows still... I guess it's a custom after all, but still... 25 with my own income, I should turn down the ang pows, right?

Nah... I'll take whatever I can... hahaha

Anyway, walked into this petshop today. When I stepped in, this lady (I assume she's the boss) was attending to this malay family (dad, mum, 2 kids). When she saw me, she turned to me and said, in a rather rude manner, "Boy, what are you looking for?" Something along that line.

What irked me was:

1) She called me boy

2) Her tone

Granted, she's probably an old hag, and probably has the right to call any male "boy". But as I mentioned, I'm 25, and being refered to as "boy" or "xiao di" by non-senior citizens really peeves me off. I do not look that young! Do I?

And, she sounded so so so rude. Renee agrees with me. Her tone was very grumpy. Anyway, her shop did not really seem to be that well maintained. It smelled very strongly of the stale smell of dogs, and even though it was air-conditioned, it struck me as having a very dusty and unkept environment. Pity the dogs that have to go through there...

I can warn you which shop it is, but I don't wanna get sued by that old bitch for slander...

I'm just being bitchy. Yes, guys can bitch.

On a lighter note, this salegirl at another petshop I went to today was so helpful and nice. She was really friendly and ready to share her knowledge about keeping pets. And even though she didn't have what Renee and I were looking for, she was still so cheery and nice. I would have felt paiseh to leave her shop empty handed.

Her mannerisms kinda reminded me of Jaclyn Tay's tomboy image in the serial, "Tian Shi De You Huo".

With this kind of service, customers will definitely go back to that shop. I know I will...

Petss Kiosk at Serangoon North. Go there.

Return to the doldrums
Monday 3 Feb 2003 2315H

A very relaxing and enjoyable New Year spent these 3 days... Played mahjong and cards last night. I can only say I had a net gain, not much though... kekeke Haven't counted the ang pow takings yet, but I think it'll be pretty much like last year... a decent amount. I don't ask for much... heh

Yet, a 3 day break for a 15 day festive season is not enough... I'm very sure I can fill up the remaining 12 days with more constructive things to do then going to school... for instance, I can play more mahjong and cards...

Sigh... what to do? Times like these make me wish I am in China.

Smells like Tim split it
Sunday 2 Feb 2003 0158H

James was a hit with the visitors today. Especially the kids. By my estimate, there was more than 30 people in our small little flat at the peak...

I thought James managed to handle all the attention pretty well. Actually, he just spent most of the time in his room... hehehe

There's so much New Year goodies, that I can't help myself but snack everytime I seat down in the living room to watch TV. I foresee a lot of horizontal height gain... Better start hitting the gym... Not!

L.U.N.A.R. New Year
Saturday 1 Feb 2003 0410H

It's finally here... The year of the goat... May the goat year be a good year for you. What does L.U.N.A.R. stand for? Let Us Not Ask Rhetorics... Bleah!

Spent the evening helping out with the last minute spring cleaning... I feel so domesticated... I better be rewarded with a big fat ang bao! And since my brother is in London, maybe the visitors tomorrow will forget about him and give me his share of the ang bao as well... hahahahahaha I am so evil!

And my CNY resolution is: to be kind to goats, and to grow a goatee again. Nah, just kidding
