“A very impressive start to what promises to be an even better series!” — Dehanna Bailee, author of Calypso’s Revenge: A Traitor’s Heart, reviewing Nina M. Osier's High Places
Site most recently updated on April 25, 2009. I've finally posted a sample from my work in progress. Scroll down for the link! There's also an updated photo on my Cat Page, for those of you who are interested.
Welcome! I’m "9-UH." When I was about 14 years old and writing stories while I was supposed to be paying attention to my high school teachers, I coined the pseudonym "Marianne Barron." Yes, Virginia, Nina and Marianne really are the same person. You can contact either or both at: nina_osier@yahoo.com.
I write mostly speculative fiction, but I have some mainstream and nonfiction titles, too. I invite you to browse through the synopses on my pages, read sample chapters, and follow links to some other interesting sites. Thanks for visiting me! Enjoy.

At last I have a title for my work in progress, and I'm finally ready to post a sample from its text. Please understand that this material is subject to revision at any time, to any extent, between now and its eventual publication. It's also only lightly edited, so I do not promise it's typo free and grammatically perfect. With that said, you can access the sample by clicking the manuscript's title: To the Farthest Outlands. Enjoy!
High Places made it to #19 on the science fiction best seller list at Fictionwise during its debut there! If you prefer the trade paperback edition, that's available at Amazon. Click the title to find out what reviewers are saying.
I've sent the third book in the Minders Series along to my publisher. It finally decided it wanted to be a trilogy, after keeping me guessing until well into the manuscript. That doesn't mean there will never be a fourth book, of course! But it does mean that the story begun in High Places and continuing in The Minder's Oath reaches its conculsion in Eve's Planet.
My long relationship with iUniverse, which recently merged with a company called AuthorHouse, has ended at my request. I've got nothing against AuthorHouse, but I didn't sign up to do business with them back in 2001; and I'd been thinking about taking this step, anyway, for some time. You will see some changes in my Amazon.com listings as a result, as well as on individual books' pages at this site.
So far four of my titles are available at All Romance eBooks. While I'm not a "romance novelist" by design - as this site's name indicates, I consider myself a writer of speculative fiction - many of my books have strong romantic elements, making some of them fine fits for this new and very well run on-line bookstore. Here's a link:
Latest at Nina's Book Reviews: Star Bright, by Catherine Anderson. Most contemporary romances bore or even annoy me, but I find this author's work incredible reading. Also reviewed recently: Full Circle, the long-awaited next installment in the Star Trek: Voyager relaunch series. I loved it, because author Kirsten Beyer nailed the characters and gave them a meaty, even at times heartrending story.
For those of you who enjoy my pet photographs, you'll find them on my Cat Page. My free on-line book of pet stories, Mariah Omega, the Last Cat, is long overdue for an update. One of these days I'll get back to it, I promise! Some year in which I don't write three full-length novels, maybe?
Author T.C. McMullen (Rise of the Arcadians) has reviewed my Farthinghome trilogy. I'm thrilled by what she has to say about Invasion, Exodus, and Atonement. If you take a moment to read, you'll see why.
Please bookmark this site and check back often. I'm always (except when my muse requires otherwise) changing or adding something. Hope to see you here again soon!
