Dun 2 Def Malachai Queens Hall Nuneaton, England November 23rd 2007 I get a phone call today off a mate of mine Buck, asking "am I up for the Crass Gig down in London on Saturday?" Only thing is I've just blew me money on a ticket for the local UK Subs show tonight, so Crass of old I would have been there in a shot, but Crass in 2007 is another thing altogether (Sorry Mr Ignorant). Any way I get me shit together and I set off for the GIG, even putting a Compilation CD together for the PA guy Paul to play, which goes down well later. Nothing doing at the Pub for a few hours, but bumped into Bulk and have a few beers taking the piss out of a couple of Lesbians with pretty big tits! But its bass-monkeys outside so even if I did score, they would need a road map to find me knob. The pub starts to pack out so I head off up-stairs to catch the first band on, which go by the name of Malachai, local band with Jamie of the Subs on drums, the only thing going for them is the banter between the band and that wears thin after a minute or two. Discharge pace but without conviction, don't get me wrong here, I like Hardcore music, but it has to have Vocals to match and this band falls short. Next up are Dun 2 Def, who plod on for a few tunes before things start warming up, a cover of the Specials 'Too Much Too Young' goes down well and they seem to be getting into their stride. I'm unsure of the next track they did but it gets the audience going wild and my foot tapping too. This is the second time I've seen them play and I thought they were even better than the first! So it's a swift beer before the Subs and a quick natter too Skinhead Gibbo and now the fun starts, laugh my balls off at some punter who must have walked in by mistake, who's flying arse over tit from pillow to post, but he's having fun so who gives a shit. For some reason or other the Subs sound tonight seemed to be different or was it that I wasn't ten sheets to the wind, it's like you buy a record and you want that emulating in their live show, but all the same it's the Subs and Charlie is an old Soldier. The man must have ever charged Batteries plugged in somewhere to keep going as long as he has. A few mini stage invasions and some Skinhead Girl grabbing the Mic for 'Warhead', and its off into the freezing night! Not the best I've seen the Subs, but a good night enjoyed by all, well I say all. There was the rocker youth getting a few slaps as we left, but other than that, not a bad night out… SID (Nuneaton) |
