Location
The Institute is situated on the southern periphery of Ranchi on the
Ranchi-Chaibasa highway about 10 kms. from Ranchi Railway
Station and about 6 kms. from Ranchi Airport.
Ranchi, being located at little over 600 metre height above mean
sea level, has a very moderate and pleasant climate all through the year.

Background
Ever since its inception in 1996 by the Government of India in collaboration with UNDP-UNESCO ,NIFFT has been looked upon by the industry to provide qualified engineers and well trained specialists for running Foundry and Forge industries to meet the great shortage of specialists to run these industries efficiently. During the last three dacades, NIFFT has earned a reputation as a leading institute for imparting technical education , training, research and development and consultancy in the fields of metal casting , metal forging and allied fields.

Objectives
Foundry and Forge Industries play vital role in the industrial development of the country. During the last three decades NIFFT has earned a reputation as a leading institute for teaching, training, research & development, consultancy and documentation and information retrieval services in metal casting and metal forming technologies. With the globalization of the market, competitiveness in industries has increased tremendously. Only those industries would survive which are energy efficient and eco-friendly; produce casting and forging with internationally acceptable quality at competitive price; and meets delivery schedule. In view of the above, the institute has evolved a rolling perspective plan for next 20 years and redefined goals and objectives of the Institute. In the light of the visionary statement, the broadened objective of the institute for the next 20 years will be :
To strengthen academic programmes at Advanced Diploma, Graduate and Postgraduate levels.
To provide a system of continuing education at all levels such as part-time research programmes, refresher courses and special courses' in established and emerging practices.
To carry out industrial research, design and development work in the relevant areas and transfer developed technology to industries effectively and efficiently.
To increase Institute-Industry Interaction and strengthen the consultancy and industrial Services.
To strengthen Documentation and Information Retrieval Services and to disseminate all relevant information and knowledge in the fields of foundry and forge technology.
