Section 7: Faith and Apologetics Journal

1. Summary of the Section

The main idea of this section is to present a way to defend your faith and that is by using apologetics which means a defense of the Faith by showing that the weight of the evidence-scientific, philosophical, and theological-favors Christianity. These defenses come from the natural world and/or via the human person. The text gives many teleological arguments to defend Christianity using reason. These are very convincing arguments such as William Paley's "The Watch and the Watchmaker", The Golden Ratio, The Anthropic Principle, The Kalam Argument, and the Degrees of Perfection.

2. The three most important ideas in my opinion that come from this section and why they are worth remembering.

One of the main ideas that I would like to remember would be the Golden Ratio because it is astounding how often it comes up. It blows my mind that a lot of things fall into this ratio. Architecture, music, art and many other things in the natural world involve this mysterious irrational number. This, in my opinion, is a very convincing argument for the existence of God.

Another idea that I would like to remember would be C.S. Lewis' Moral Argument for the Existence of God because it is a very convincing argument for God's existence based on logic and it is very well thought out. He believes that there is a universal moral law that everyone abides by and therefore there must be a universal moral lawgiver. The qualities of this lawgiver are the exact same qualities of the Christian God so therefore there is a God. I enjoy his logic and it is very convincing. It is something worth remembering, in my opinion.

The final thing that I would like to remember is the marketing eight hidden needs because I do believe they are needs that everyone has but we might not realize it at first. Reading over these a lot really got me to reflect on my life more. They are also worth remembering. These needs are:
1. Reassurance of worth
2. Ego-gratification
3. Creative outlets
4. Love objects
5. Emotional security
6. Sense of power
7. Sense of roots
8. Immortality

One Image That Reminds Me of Jesus

"Who Is Jesus" According To Me

To me, Jesus is the friend who I see at school everyday that I pass in the hallway but most of the time avoid eye contact with or just totally ignore his presence because my mind is somewhere else or I am not feeling very sociable at the time. I say this because I do talk to Jesus a lot because he is one of my friends, but I see him everyday in everything but I do not aknowledge this fact the majority of the time. There will be times I will sit down and talk to him for a long time, but there are also times where I will go a couple of days without saying "Hey buddy, how are you?". I need to work on this especially in the light of this Advent season because he is coming again and I want to be as close to him as possible when he comes to hang out for a long time.
