Gunship enters Taliban fight |
Monday, October 15, 2001
The unrelenting pounding of Afghanistan entered its second week yesterday after U.S. President George W. Bush spurned a new Taliban offer to try Osama bin Laden in a neutral country. "There's no need to discuss innocence or guilt" for bin Laden in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against the United States, Bush said. "We know he's guilty." Bush, who rarely speaks to reporters after stepping off an arriving helicopter at the White House, made a beeline for them yesterday. Afghanistan's Taliban rulers can end the bombing if they meet his "non-negotiable" terms, Bush said. "When I said no negotiations, I meant no negotiations," Bush insisted. "Turn him over, turn his cohorts over, turn any hostages they hold over, destroy all the terrorist camps. ... I told them exactly what they needed to do. There's no need to discuss innocence or guilt." |
