Summary- A visitor from Sunnydale shows up…
Disclaimer- not mine… yadda, yadda
Lilah walked over to Connor to check on him for about the millionth time since the others had gone out for as colourfully referred to by Gunn, 'Pancake Friday breakfast' at Wendy's.
Since Lilah's stomach already felt like a dead weight this morning after Fred had challenged her to a strawberry shoelace sweet eating contest at two a.m., and Dawn was arriving from Sunnydale in a few hours, she'd told Angel she'd stay behind at the hotel with Connor and straighten the place out a bit.
But as soon as all six of them had stepped out of the door Lilah had been scouring the Cosmo website for a bunch of fashion articles, that she could download, print, read and pass on to Cordy.
During the last three days Wesley had become intensely paranoid over the lawsuit against them and decided to cut corners in their combined outgoing budget wherever he could.
That included, he'd told Lilah and Cordy, piles of fashion magazines that you both read once and then throw away.
As Cordy had told Lilah last night there were only so many style tips you could find in the Los Angeles Times.
So Lilah had promised Cordy she'd download the 'sixty essential metallic eye shadows shades for Spring.'
There was a sharp knock on the heavy front door of the hotel.
Lilah minimised the computer window, so she was back to the desktop and the Angel Investigations wallpaper.
As she went to answer the door she instinctively glanced at Connor still soundly asleep in his car seat on the chair behind the door.
Lilah opened the door to see a teenage girl standing there. Her long, brown hair was clipped back loosely in a crocodile clip. She wore a denim jacket, red tank top and indigo jeans. Beside her stood a dark haired man in his early twenties.
"Hey," the girl said shyly, "I'm Dawn."
"Oh right, of course, I'm Lilah. We weren't expecting you so early. Come on in."
Dawn and the dark haired guy who seemed to be struggling with a dark purple sports bag stepped inside the hotel lobby.
"Man, that thing weighs a tonne!" he exclaimed, "I'm Xander," he said to Lilah.
"Lilah," she said back, vaguely remembering his name from the slayer: Summers, Buffy Wolfram and Hart case file.
"Xander… you're such a wuss. That's on my accessories in that bag," Dawn told him, playfully.
"Well on our floor we get to share a bathroom with another girl and a guy… believe me… he spends more time on his hair than I do. So with your load we won't be able to open the bathroom door for stuff…" Lilah told her amicably. "We spend enough time fighting over whose wella hair gel is who's… I'm looking forward to getting some mango body scrub in the mix…"
"Close… it's pineapple… we could get sticky labels…" Dawn joked.
"I'm sure we'll have a great time sharing anyway," Lilah smiled.
From the office Lilah could hear Connor crying.
"I'm sorry I should get that," Lilah told Xander, "But do you want something in a minute? Coffee?"
"No I'm good thanks," he told her, "I should head back. Bye Dawn. Be good."
He walked away without another look back.
"Do you want to bring your stuff through?" Lilah said to Dawn, picking up her the sports bag stuffed with accessories, leading her through to the office, "The others all went out for breakfast, I'm just here to watch Connor."
Dawn stood on the opposite side of the office to Connor as Lilah bent down to gently let him wrap his tiny fingers around her right index finger.
"Is he yours?" Dawn asked.
"No… actually he's Angel's son…"
"OK… isn't Angel like… dead?"
"It's a *long* story…" Lilah told Dawn, "Have a seat."
Dawn sat down on the office chair, as Lilah gently picked up Connor's seat, sat down on the chair that held him and putting it on her lap.
"Do you want to hold him?" Lilah asked Dawn.
She shook her head.
"You not a baby person either?" Lilah asked, "Me neither…"
"Are you Angel's girlfriend?" Dawn asked Lilah.
Lilah shook her head.
"God no… I just… work for him. I'm his legal advisor… actually at the moment we're in the process of getting sued by the people I used to work for… another long story…"
"And LA's full of them… where I come from everyone's so normal…"
"Same. I'm from Mystic… it's this tiny town right on the Nevada/California state line. It's so small it's not even on routemaster. I took law at Berkeley and LA was like… Cruel Intentions or something. Everyone slept around and everyone was on coke…"
"My story's the opposite… We lived in LA until I was nine and then moved to Sunnydale," Dawn explained, "Sometimes I miss it."
The front door opened and Cordy made a beeline towards Dawn.
"Oh my god!" Cordy shrieked.
"Dawn stood up and hugged her.
"Hey, look at you," Angel said to Lilah warmly, "Actually with the holding of Connor… even if it is through plastic… what happened to 'I might drop him?'"
Lilah shrugged.
"Dawn was here to catch him if he fell… "
