"Did you sleep?" Lindsey asked Lilah, late the next night.

She shook her head.

"I feel like all I do is sleep… What are you doing sitting here, by yourself in the dark?"

"Trying to stare at the TV… there's a Spongebob Squarepants marathon on Nickelodeon… I couldn’t take being in my room anymore just listening to the silence…"

"She's really gone hasn’t she?" Lilah said, sitting down on the sofa beside Lindsey.

"Yeah," Lindsey unnecessarily strengthened, leaning forward to press standby on the TV remote, instantly allowing the all-consuming silence to enter the room.

"But… Erin seems nice. She reminds me of you… you look alike… you have the same eyes…"

"They're my mother's eyes…"

"I think Hannah's going to have them too… sorry."

"You can say her name… I'm not going to pretend she doesn’t exist…"

"Me neither… but I don’t think we should dwell… I think now we should be making plans…"

"Like what?"

"Things… pointless things. Like… buying a Christmas tree… going on vacation… I don't know… getting a puppy… how do you feel about golden retrievers?"

"I think I'm more of a cat person… it'll be like fitting in a whole relationship in two months before we become parents… again."

"I just want us to have a normal life…"

"You could never be normal…"

"Thanks…" he quipped sarcastically.

"No… I mean… you're better… than normal… I'm saying this wrong…"

"Coming from you I guess that could be considered a compliment…" he said, shifting closer, leaning across to brush his lips with hers.

"Cordy called," he said, his lips just inches from hers, "She's staying at the hotel tonight." His hand gently traced underneath her silk robe and up her thigh, "So…"

"Do we have candles?" she asked a little breathlessly.

"Why… you don't want to drip hot wax on me do you?"

"No… I thought candles just might be nice…"

"Yeah… it'll be… nice." He said tracing circles on her upper thigh making her gasp involuntarily.

Her heart was beginning to speed rapidly as he kissed carefully at the pulse point on her neck. She crawled onto his lap, their bodies rocking softly, his hands buried in her hair.

She pulled his T-shirt over his head; her eyes never leaving his as he undid her dressing gown belt, letting the white silk fall from her shoulders.

He gently let her body drop back into the sofa, kissing her again.

He didn’t speak… he didn’t need to…

"I'm sorry…" he told her afterwards, handing her one of his shirts from his closet.

"Why?" she asked him softly, buttoning the shirt as he found some clothes in his dresser, "I'm not…"

"Did I hurt you?" he asked, turning back to her.

She shook her head.

"No… I'm OK…"

"How did we end up in here?"

"Didn't you carry me?" she said, tentatively.

"Oh yeah… that time…"

"Do you arms hurt? From holding me up?"

"No…"

"Thankyou… you made me feel… it was…"

"Hallucinogenic?"

"OK… hallucinogenic…"

"Despite everything… that was amazing."

"I know…"

"I…"

"Please don't… not tonight…"

"Let's go downstairs… get a drink… I bought scotch… the good stuff…"

"OK then."

He followed Lilah down the stairs, not touching her.

She watched him silently from the sofa as he produced two glasses and a selection of bottles.

"We have single malt, Smirnoff… I think the tequila and Malibu are Cordy's…" he told her.

"How'd you figure?"

"They're not yours… and they're not mine. I know you hate Malibu… I remember the time; it must've been what… three years ago? Where me, you and Lee took those clients to that bar on fifth and hill and they insisted we drunk that fifty dollar bottle of Malibu between us… you hated it so much you threw up in the cab on the way home…"

"All I can remember was Lee handing the driver a bunch of C notes and you and him throwing me on my sofa… where I blacked out…"

"I stayed with you afterwards…"

"You didn’t tell me… why?"

"Because that night I realised you were human… who'd have thought I'd end up falling in love with you…"

"Lee would be turning in his grave right about now… if he had one…"

"Yeah… imagine if he knew we had a kid together… again, sorry. And now I feel guilty…" he said, abandoning their drinks and sitting beside her on the sofa, "Because I didn’t tell you I loved you…"

"You showed me… It was nice… you were gentle…"

"All I've thought about all day is Hannah… and you… and my family… they asked me to take you to go and meet them… in a few weeks… say no if you want to…"

"OK… OK… not no, I won’t go and meet them… I will…"

"Only if you feel ready…"

"No… I actually want to… I never been to Oklahoma…"

"That's because you'll never step outside the box that is the Pacific Northwest… you haven't lived until you've seen the Southern states…"

He kissed her again, but eventually stopped, pulling away from her.

"It's getting light… Cordy'll be home soon…" she whispered softly.

"Spongebob?"

"I don’t even know if I like Cartoons…"

"You'll love them…"

"OK… will you teach me?"

"Hey," Cordy said, walking through the front door, a bag of doughnuts in her right hand.

"Hey," Lindsey said, his arm around Lilah, "What are you doing… here… at six a.m…"

"I live here… and I came by with breakfast…" she said, dropping the pink and white striped bag on the table in front of them.

"You bought us Krusty Kreme?" Lilah asked Cordy.

"I bought you vanilla cream…" Cordy told Lilah, "You still like them right?"

"Yeah… I went through this phase… a weeklong phase actually when I was pregnant where all I could eat were vanilla doughnuts…" Lilah explained to Lindsey.

"I also bought jelly…" Cordy told him.

"I'm not actually hungry… I'm tired… I'm gonna go and try to sleep…" he said, kissing Lilah's hair before ascending the stairs.

"Are you guys back together… properly?" Cordy asked Lilah.

"What makes you think that? We always kiss each other…"

"Yeah I know that… but… he had his arm around you. You guys kiss you hardly ever touch… Half burnt out candles… you're wearing his shirt. You're watching Spongebob when you hate cartoons… add it up it all spells 'duh…' or 'love…'"

"Rocko's modern life had its moments… but maybe… I think I'm in love with Lindsey… rather than just love him…"

"Great… so you're actually going to tell him?"

"No… telling him is too much right now… I'd rather… show him."

"You didn’t… I mean… you did?"

"Yeah…"

"OK… details. Obviously not details but… details…"

"It meant something… I looked into his eyes and actually saw… something. Anyway… what about you and Angel?"

"Played cribbage with Wesley and Fred…"

"Any cases? Alien abduction? Wild… bears?"

"Missing dog…"

"Missing dog?"

"Extremely rich owners, answers to Fluffy… not a husky… like a husky but smaller. I'm taking a flyer to Kinko's to print… wanna come with?"

"OK… I can’t lock myself in here forever…"

"Don’t shut Lindsey out… he's hurting…"

"On the surface he is… underneath he's my rock… he has to be…"

"Well how do you and your rock feel about going away for the weekend with me and Angel? To this cabin… in the mountains… we're taking Connor up there tomorrow…"

"Wouldn’t that wreck your whole romantic weekend?"

"No… it's not a romantic weekend… and besides I'm a little nervous about going away with Angel for the first time… please?"

"OK then… I've never really seen the mountains…"

"You'll love it… I promise… Lindsey will too…"

"I hope so… most of the time we don’t even want the same thing…"
