((You know I've never really thought about it…)) - Wesley and Kate yahoo! Groups list.
"Let him go," Kate told the holding officers. She locked eyes with Wesley, just for a moment, before stalking off to her office, without a backward glance. ~ Unravel me, a distant cord. On the outside is forgotten, a constant need. ~ She willed the tears not to fall, not tonight, not for Wesley, not for anyone. ~ To get along. The animal awakens. And all I feel is black and white. ~
"Kate?" Wesley said, delicately knocking at the door. ~ The road is long. The memory slides, to the whole of my undoing. ~
"What?" she whirled around angrily, tears glistening in her eyes, "What do you want?" ~ Put aside. I put away. I push it back to get through each day. ~
Wesley entered the office closing the door cautiously. ~ And all I feel is black and white. And I'm wound up small and tight. And I don't know who I am. ~
"Kate we *need* to talk," he said. He paused for a moment before trying again, then, "Are you OK?" ~ Everyone loves you when you're easy. Everyone hates you when you're a bore. ~
"Yes I'm fine," she snapped, icily. "Apart from your totally *non - evil* boss almost draining me to death, I'm fine. Why the sudden concern?" ~ Everyone is waiting for your entrance, so don't disappoint them. ~
"Why do you think?" Wesley answered, frustrated. "The other week…" ~ Unravel me. Untie this cord. The very centre of our union. ~
Wesley saw the look of anguish cross Kate's face. ~ Is caving in. I can't endure. I am the archive of our failure. ~
"Well since I was drunk, I don't really remember. I'll tell you want I do remember though. Waking up with a pounding headache. It was oh, lets just say two a.m. With Angel banging on the door and you climbing out of the back window!" ~ And all I feel is black and white. And I'm wound up small and tight. And I don't know who I am. ~
Tears sprang to Kate's eyes. Wesley wanted to comfort her but was afraid to. Like if he touched her she would shatter into a million, glittering pieces. ~ Everybody loves you when you're easy. Everyone hates you when you're a bore. ~
"I'm a big girl, Wesley. I can make my own choices," she sobbed. Wesley felt a lump rise in the back of his own throat. ~ Everyone is waiting for your entrance so don't disappoint them. ~ All Wesley could do was listen to her outburst.
"You think this isn't painful for me too?" Wesley asked her. "Knowing you were thinking of Angel the entire time. Knowing that I don’t have a choice in all of this! Knowing you've decided and you can't even think about it!" He felt the hot pressure of tears building up behind his eyelids, "It *is* your choice Kate! You'll have to live with it for the rest of your life!" ~ Everyone loves you when you're easy so don't disappoint them. ~
Wesley felt a stray tear escape his eye.
"What other choice do I have?" Kate asked calmly, though she felt anything but. ~ Don't disappoint them. ~ "But I've made my choice, Wesley. I'm sorry this is so painful and it's tearing me apart inside…"
"Don't do this!"
"I have to! People would know!"
"You mean Angel would know…" Wesley shot her one last look before back tracking out of the office without a backward glance for his lost love… ~ Black and White. ~
