My Shadows

They find me
They trail me
They tug on my sleeve.

They talk all day
And whisper all night;
They're loud and insistent
Soft and persistent,
They chatter on and on
They sometimes drive me mad.

They're demanding and loving,
They're nonsensical,
They're giving and draining
And they take all my time.

As much as I love them,
Nurture them,
Care for them,
Feed their hunger-
Always, when one is satisfied,
There are five more waiting.

Are they my children,
Are they my charge?
Sure- they're my challenge
Their desires writ large.

What are they?
My offspring
My blood;
They're the voice of my heart
They're the poems I write.
