I invited my mother to the interview
I said for fifty bucks we get to tape you to
We are going to ask you what you did for fun
And if a gun boat ever shot someone
Your Indian name and your family tree
And when we are thru with you
You get your lunch for free.

My momma said hey that is fine and grand
But what's it gotta do with the land.

Somebody said that I really should see
The healing things that plants can do for me
The work that has just begun
To correct what the schools have done
The pieces of art that went away
The words we were not allowed to say.

Each one important yes I understand
But what's it got to do with the land.

Paying for water, fish and wood
Investor's took all of the soil that's good
The copper, coal and silver mines
Purse seine boats and railroad lines.

Miles of white shell and drak grey sand
But hey whats it gotta do with the land.
