| Nature's Creatures by © lmaenle I love to do nature stories, as some of you could tell from my Smiles Alot Stories. I've known since I was little, that I have some kind of connection with nature and the wonderful creatures that I come in contact with. Growing up I've always had a pet or two or three. I've had cats that were just dumped on our doorstep because we lived in the country. These cats always seem to like to bring me "presents." Ya know, mice, snakes and whatnot. My cat, Stormy, would bring me a "present" every year on my birthday! He would bring it up to the door and either meow or scratch on the door until either my Mom or one of my family members would go to the door and yell..."Lorry!! He's done it again this year! Your cat has brought you a present and I'M NOT cleaning it up!!" LOL Then I had this other cat, Clown, he was a calico, very beautiful and very unique. To this day my sis will tell the many stories of Clown and I. I could talk to this cat and he would understand me and then answer me back, meowing with attitude or gratitude. Now as I got older I've always surrounded myself and my children with pets, a few I would rather forget about!! LOL But I guess the one time that really stands out....one time when my oldest kids were in school and the youngest was taking a nap....I decided it was such a beautiful day out, sun shining, birds chirping...that I would lay out. I got my chair, my beach towel, my water, and of course my timer so if the little one slept longer than usual then I would know when I had enough time in the sun. I layed down and turned my radio on, of course to the '80's station, my kids call it the oldies. LOL Anyway I noticed that a barn swallow would come over near me and chirp. At first I just smiled and watched it. Then another one came over close the other one flew away. The second one was just chirping away. So I decided to talk to it.....don't really remember what the conversation was about.....but that little swallow, along with the other one every now and again, just loved chatting with me. After that day, when I would be in the flower garden pulling weeds or planting, a swallow would fly near and come as close as they felt comfortable and chatted away with me.
