5 days, 1,000 miles across 4 states. Beautiful mountian scenery. It was the honeymoon we never had. In the spring of 2002, Kevin and I packed up and headed out to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a totally breath-taking (literally!) adventure. I'd never seen mountians up close before, so for me this was something truly amazing!

The 1st set of pics here were taken at Garden of the Gods, where they have some very cool rock formations. Although I must say, the photographs hardly do them justice! I wish we would have taken more though, you could literally spend hours just looking at everything and never get bored!

These next set of pictures were taken while driving up and down Pike's Peak. While the scenery was indeed spectacular, the drive was terrifying! There are NO guardrails!! (which is evident from a few of these pics!) Reason being is that the wind can be so strong up there sometimes that it would eventually damage them in no time. They have races up it in the summertime as well. But personally I think you would have to be out of your mind to even think about racing up it! In one of the pics below you also will see one of the actual racecars that was used at one time. And if you closely at some of these, you can see from a distance the road that winds up and around the mountain. Yes, terrifying indeed!

By the time we reached the summit, we were 14,110 feet above sea level. And boy was it was freezing and windy up there! Not to mention that there is less oxygen so it makes breathing a little more tricky. All in all, we had a pretty good time up there. But if we ever go again, I'm taking the train up instead, LOL.

P.S. - What was it with Kevin always wanting me to stand or sit at the edge of cliffs anyway?? Hmmmm...

We also spent some time at The Royal Gorge Bridge in Canyon City. (Sorry, no pics to share yet, still working on those!) They have a suspension bridge that spans across a large gorge. We discovered that this was also the site of the very 1st bungie-jump. They have a cable-car that takes people across the gorge, but I was chicken and decided that we would just take the bridge instead! :)

We spent the drive home going through Dodge City, Kansas, which I have to say I was kind of disappointed in. In fact, pretty much all of Kansas was pretty disappointing in my opinion. 450 miles of road construction, flat land and fields. And they sell Wizard of Oz stuff at every single gas station. Next time we go to Colorado, we're flying, LOL

So that was it for our big adventure. I'm sure it will be another 4 or 5 years before we get to go somewhere again, but this trip was definitely worth waiting for!!
