Poetry:

The Blackberry Fairy

My berries cluster black and thick,
For rich and poor alike to pick.

I’ll tear your dress, and cling, and tease,
And scratch your arms and hands and knees.

I’ll stain your fingers and your face,
And then I’ll laugh at your disgrace.

But when the bramble-jelly’s made,
You’ll find your trouble well repaid.

Songs and Fingerplays:

POP Goes The Berries
Sung to: "Pop Goes the Weasel"

All around the strawberry fields,
We picked some juicy berries
We brought them home and washed them off,
Pop! - go the berries!

Strawberry Patch
Sung to: "Paw Paw Patch"

Where oh where are all the children?
Where oh where are all the children?
Where oh where are all the children?
Way down yonder in the strawberry patch.

Pickin' up strawberries, put 'em in the basket,
Pickin' up strawberries, put 'em in the basket,
Pickin' up strawberries, put 'em in the basket,
Way down yonder in the strawberry patch.

Take the berries home and wash em up
Take the berries home and wash em up
Take the berries home and wash em up
Way down yonder in the strawberry patch!

Slice the berries up and make a pie.
Slice the berries up and make a pie.
Slice the berries up and make a pie.
Way down yonder in the strawberry patch!

Picked A Strawberry
    Sung to: "Clementine"

Picked a strawberry,
Picked a strawberry
That was growing
In the sun.
Then I washed it,
And I ate it,
And I picked another one.

Mouse and The Strawberry
Sing after reading the story "Mouse and the Strawberry"
    Sung to: "Short'nin Bread"

Little gray mouse loves strawberry, strawberry
Little gray mouse sees one that's ripe.
Little gray mouse loves strawberry, strawberry
Little gray mouse has quite a fright.

Little gray mouse loves strawberry, strawberry.
Little gray mouse gives half to me.
Little gray mouse loves strawberry, strawberry
Little gray mouse rests dreamily.

I Am A Strawberry
Sung to: "I'm A Little Teapot"

I am a strawberry,
Red and Sweet.
See all my seeds
And my cap so neat.

When I grow ripe
And ready to eat,
Pop off my cap--
A tasty Treat!

Strawberry, Strawberry

Strawberry, strawberry, how do you grow?
With sun and water, don't you know.
First blooms a flower that smells so sweet.
Then grows a strawberry--a tasty treat!

Strawberry, Bananas, Watermelon
Sung to: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"

Strawberries, bananas, watermelon too;
Good for me and good for you!
They are tasty; they are sweet.
All are such a yummy treat.
Strawberries, bananas, watermelon too;
Good for me and good for you!
