Mia: Devotion

Chapter 2

* Her jet-black eyes focused on the task at hand. She saw well in the dim light, and she quickly flicked her eyes to the female flanking her. They both were crouched low, eyes and ears alert. The other female nodded, and then disappeared into the brush.

Their prey pricked its ears, and looked around. She froze, knowing that her body colors blended into the foliage perfectly. Its dark eyes shone in the star-lit sky, searching for the unseen predators. Finally, it lowered its equine-like head, thinking it was alone.

She crept forward, her hands and feet hitting the ground in complete silence. She listened to her prey's calm heartbeat, and she could hear the faster, adrenaline-pumped beat of her partner. She could see the other hunter on the opposite side, ready to attack. She waited for the right time, until the animal was less likely to see her.

Her attack was lightening fast. The creature cried out as she delivered a bone-crushing blow to its hind legs, immobilizing it. The other hunter leapt out from her hiding space and snapped its neck with a carefully laid kick. The two stood over their kill, tails swishing. The older female picked it up with muscular arms, and gave her younger partner a grin.

Serori and Hakuto made it back to camp as the crescent moon was rising in the distance. The meal was served, and bellies were satisfied. A small fire burned in the center of a rough circle. Over it was the roasting leftovers of the meal, which was being picked at. It wouldn't be long until the second moon rose and the first moon fell.

Tomma stood watch as the others slept. It had been two months since the four of them arrived to help them with the final battle. The past months had been hard on all of them, especially the half-Saiyans. Tomma had found it near impossible to re-awaken the sleeping Saiyan instincts in them. He'd failed in one sense: he still wasn't able to convince Gohan to hunt. But he'd found that the other two, Goten and Trunks, since they were younger, it was easier. Though Goten seemed to enjoy hunted more than Trunks did. Tomma was mildly surprised: The son of Vegeta wasn't as ruthless as one would think him to be, and the son of Kakorot, a soft-hearted weakling in his eyes, was as ruthless as one could get when hunting.

Hakuto, on the other hand, adapted to life perfectly. The girl was like a daughter to him, and he knew her hidden passion to be what she was born to be: a wild creature, living and supplying everything for herself. He was immensely proud of the girl, and had no worries about the continuation of the Saiyan lines. Hakuto had already produced two healthy and strong offspring. Both three-quarter Saiyan children were still on Earth, being looked after by Vegeta and Sekkai.

Tomma chuckled. Ever since Kakorot had merged with the Earth DragonBalls, Vegeta had the responsibility of defending the Earth. And because of that, Vegeta had been voted to stay on Earth in case the Talisians were sending their forces to their 'Sanctuary'. Vegeta hadn't been pleased with the decision, and promptly told them that the other Z Warriors could handle it. Tomma had just laughed at the statement, and had gotten a Ki blast in the shoulder for it.

He stretched. They were finally launching the attack on Talis tomorrow. The plan was to take out the weaker villages first, then move into the more populated areas. Not in a group, but singly. They couldn't risk death; every Warrior was needed. It was decided that if Sekkai was needed, Tomma was to teleport home and bring her to the battlefield. Vegeta would be a last resort.

Tomma turned, looking in a different direction. 'Sekkai is getting older...' he thought to himself. It was true: the Saiyan woman was far older than he or Serori, and was showing traces of gray on the base of her black hair. Tomma knew that she still trained, but she wasn't anywhere near what she was when she was in her prime. Her movements were still powerful, but they were slow. She was so much slower than she was when they'd first met.

He looked down on the sleepers on the ground below him. Serori, his queen, was peacefully dozing beside Gohan. Tomma thought it was a shame: Gohan's great potential had been wasted. All of their potential, except for Hakuto, had been wasted, since Earth had finally found peace. They had no reason to train.

Both Tomma and Serori had improved greatly. They hadn't reached Super Saiyan, but they didn't care. They didn't need to. They'd found ways of beating Talisians without having to rely on pure strength. They found that confusion worked much better.

His eyes shifted to Trunks and Goten. Tomma smiled briefly. Hakuto had her flings with the both of them, but settled finally on one. He fondly recalled a memory of her first child, a deep blue-haired female named Nashi. He then thought of her second child, this time a male and heir to the Saiyan throne: little Vegeta, named like the entire Royal Saiyan lineage.

Hakuto sat awake, looking into the dark horizon. Tomma leapt from his tree-branch perch and landed quietly, using his Ki to set himself lightly down. He strode towards the adult Saiyan, and cast her a questioning look.

Hakuto looked up, and gave him a small smile. "Are you sure this is going to work?"

Tomma huffed. "Of course it is. It's been working for the last couple of years, hasn't it? We've teleported to different locations, destroyed everything and teleport away again before they can call on reinforcements. Why shouldn't it work on Talis?"

"Well, it is their main location of operations. I think if they attacked Earth, we'd be very prepared. I think you're under-estimating them, friend." Hakuto sighed and looked back to the horizon.

"Do you challenge my leadership?" Tomma spat.

"No. I'm just telling you what I think," was Hakuto's monotonous reply. "I just don't have a good feeling about this." She shook her head, her spiky black hair flowing behind her. "You know I'll follow you."

Tomma raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry. You are a Super Saiyan, I'm sure you can handle whatever they throw at you. Now sleep. You need it." Tomma turned on his heel.

Hakuto watched him leave. Secretly, she wondered who would die first in the series of battles yet to come.
