Bordered Background

Jannie - I have a ? about the tutorial!
Below is the pic I will be using for this tutorial.
Right click and save for use, or by all means, use one you may have!
If using one of your own, for this tutorial,
the picture needs to be at a
heighth of 180, so be sure to resize with images, resize
(and use the
pixel size at the top instead of the percentage of original option for resizing).
Doesn't matter the width, just give it a heighth of 180!
NOTE: Don't be afraid to ever play around with the sizing!
I am simply using the height of 180 for this tutorial.
You can get
different styles of background looks by fooling around with the sizing!

There are soooooo many ways to make backgrounds, lol
- but this
is an easy, quick bordered bg I think you'll like! :-)
Step 1 - Use your dropper
, & pick a color from the
color pallette for your border around the pic.
I usually pick something from the actual pic I'm working with!
Go to images, add borders & give it a symmetric
border of 10.

Step 2 - Use your magic wand
& click anywhere within your border
then apply an inner bevel.
(Effects, 3d effects, inner bevel).
My settings for the inner bevel are:

OPTIONAL STEP BELOW
After applying the inner bevel, i'm using my eyecandy4000win to apply a gradient glow with these settings!
Glow width - 6.52
Soft corner - 6
Overall opacity - 100%
Under the color tab choose white as the color!
CTRL D to get rid of the ants!
Here's how mine looks after applying the bevel & gradient glow!

Step 3 - Using your dropper again
, choose another color from the
color pallette (or from yer pic) for the background.
Some people like to choose white for email but you make it any color u wish!
This is YOUR background!
Got yer color? K! Now go to image, add borders
& this time we will NOT
use the symmetric option so be sure to UNCHECK it!
We will be using
only the "right" option with a setting of 344.

NOTE: Okies, with this particular bg, lemme explain this sizing a li'l better.
Most backgrounds used in EMAIL are at a size of 500 x 200.
We get the
additional settings of 344 due to the bordered pic already being at 155.
(At least mine is anyways, lol). So.. when making yer backgrounds,
bordered ones,
figure out the size of your pic (in width of course) and take those #'s and subtract them from 500.
I took my width of my bordered pic at 155 and subtracted it from 500 to get the additional right border of 344.
Did I just confuse you more? LOLOL
Also, when making bordered backgrounds for WEBSITES & not email,
the extended right border should be set at 1200 or 1500.
I know that's a
rather high number, but website pages are "wider" than email
(unless of course you're one that likes to enlarge yer emails, lol).
You should now have an extended border to the right of your pic!

You can now leave it alone & save yer background as is..
and by the way...
CONGRATS on making yer background! LOLOLOL
OR
You can now use yer magic wand again & click inside your colored
border u just added and apply a texture.
(Effects, texture effects)
Play around with this part - u'll be surprised at what u come up with!
:-)
CTRL D when done to get rid of the ants!
VIOLA! You've made your background!
And as always...
YOUR IMAGINATION IS YOUR BEST TOOL
