I Saw Santa

December 2003

It was the night before Christmas and my family and I were trying to put up the Christmas tree, but my little brother kept pulling down the lights.

I was getting very tired so my dad said, "Go to bed." I was happy to do that. So I went to bed.

While visions of sugarplums danced in my head, when I finished eating all the sugarplums, I heard such a clatter that I ran upstairs to see what the matter was. Then I saw in my family room a jolly Saint Nicholas with a grin and two red rosy cheeks holding a big, black bag.

When he saw me, he smiled and sat down on the couch. He drank the milk and ate some cookies. Then he said, "Maia, come over here and eat with me. I am on a diet and I am too tempted to eat them all." So I sat down for a midnight snack. Then Santa got to work.

He pulled out a Gameboy and I told him, "That's for me." Then he pulled out 3 Pixtars and I told him they are for the three oldest. He smiled at me! Then he told me to go to bed because my parents are going to wake up soon. Santa went to the door to leave. I think he didn't want to use all his magic.

I went to bed. When I woke up, I told my brother that last night I saw Santa. He said, "Santa is not real."

Why he does not believe in him is a whole different story.
