The picture aside, now, I am teaching 6th through 8th grade Computer Science in Georgia. Though I am originally an Ohio-an, and though I still yearn for the snow-covered hills, I am in the process of becoming a relatively well-adjusted Georgian.
I say "relatively well-adjusted" because I'm just not sure that a transplanted Northerner will ever feel truly a part of the South. I do enjoy it down here a lot; the summers are just plain HOT down here, but each successive summer seems slightly less oppressive than the previous one did.
The winters in Georgia, though! Wow! If my Karmann Ghia needs work mid-winter it's really nothing to pull it into the garage, leave the garage door open, and fix 'er up.
I am learning to incorporate some phrases into my Northern vocabulary that are distinctly Southern. "Y'all" has found a comfortable niche and I can use it without thinking about it. "Fixin' ta" is becoming a little more frequent a friend of my mouth. However, "pop" is still "pop" and will never be "soda".
I am enjoying my job more and more each year. Despite the fact that Georgia education ranks among the lowest-scoring in the nation, the education in my particular school district is wonderful. The school is great. My students are fun to teach! The diversity really keeps me on my toes. Each year I become a little more thankful that I learned Spanish in high school (learned it, not just took it.
I think I'll keep teaching awhile.
I have a beautiful wife, 3 beautiful daughters, a beautiful 1971 VW Karmann Ghia, and a wonderful job.
What else could there possibly be?
I am currently teaching HTML-programming and I use this site to try and keep one step ahead of my students.
