The sweltering, muggy air of the rainforest is starting to be unbearable. You trudge through the somewhat overgrown path with slight difficulty, as it obviously hasn't been mowed for a while. After following a curve, a bog abruptly crosses the path -- or makes a gap in it, rather. The only option is to traverse the water. Sighing, you peel off your shoes, and, after distrustfully scrutinizing the water for pirahnas and finding none, cautiously step in. You've waded no more than a few strides when you suddenly trod upon something scaly. An extremely pathetic shriek automatically escapes your mouth at the same time you hear someone yell, "OW!!!!"
You carefully let up your foot and look downward, meeting the indignant eyes of a small reptilian creature.
"WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!" he fumes, nursing his tail, which you apparently stepped on.
"....Sorry," you reply lamely, for lack of a better response, "I didn't see you."
Your answer proves to be lame, as it doesn't seem to be effective against his angry muttering.
"Please. You really need to grow up, Gazee," an unimpressed voice says.
You look up to see a creature of the same class as the one you upset perched on an overlooking branch. He is a vibrant yellow, and bears a firey mane that runs all the way to the tip of his tail.
"Hello, traveler," he greets you politely with a nod, "I am Xahc'Deynal, Fire Crest, and the bristled one is Gazee'Zuerrz." Xahc'Deynal pauses, receiving a glare from Gazee, then turns back to you. Noticing your confused countenance, he adds, "We are Mini Býrauds."
The other Mini Býraud snaps, "Oh, be quiet. You're boring the traveler, considering that she's been standing there listening to you babble away for a hour."
Xahc'Deynal shrugs coolly, unfazed by Gazee's snide remark. "I'm guessing you want to be on your way. Safe journey, traveler."
Gazee, who has since taken a seat on the bank, rolls his eyes and mumbles, "Yeah, whatever." He turns on his heel and scampers away, disappearing amid the foliage.
You acknowledge Xahc's farewell with a quiet nod and continue wading on.
