Tex Murphy Convention
2001
This page is dedicated to the creation of a Tex Murphy Convention next year. It was mentioned once, by me, on a message board earlier this month and the response has been overwhelming. The greater number of interested parties, the more it seems to be a possibility.
Sci-fi conventions usually entail fans coming in costumes, meeting other fans, buying collectables, and meeting their favorite stars. This convention may not be as big as other conventions due to the small group of people who have the privilege of playing the Tex Murphy games, but we plan to include all the same elements as any other convention.
A big concern is where to hold one, because Tex Murphy fans spread globally. Salt Lake City seems to be a good option, because the former Access HQ is located there along with Aaron Conners and Chris Jones. Others suggested San Francisco because it's the setting for the Tex Murphy games. We also had to consider when to hold it. Summer seemed to be a good time for most people; so we're shooting for Summer 2001.
Another concern is the number of people who wouldn't be able to attend for financial or geographic reasons. It was suggested that the convention be held over the internet; it would be cheaper and easier to conduct. We could talk to Access creators and actors over a week-long period and share experiences.
It was also suggested to create an adventure gamer convention with a Tex Murphy booth or to hold an interactive hero convention with a Tex Murphy division. If there aren't enough fans who can come, we may have to consider this option.
I think it would be best to do both; hold a live convention and then broadcast it live via the net. That way everyone has the option of the live experience and still wouldn't have to miss out on the action if they couldn't come.
Right now we're researching information on places to hold it and trying to find out how many people are interested. Adrian Carr was e-mailed and he gave his support and said he would come if it went on. After we have information, we're going to start making decisions on where, when, and how much. Then we'll spread the word through every web site and message board that could possibly be interested to get the maximum number of people to come. And then we'll put on the final details, from decorations to internet setups and the like. Then we attend. Not too difficult. Our motto is "K.I.S.S.": Keep It Simple, Smarty. That's the only way we're going to make this happen.
How can you help? Research, spread the word, convey your interest. If you have connections to Access or you are a computer guru and would be able to help set up a live broadcast, your help would be particularly appreciated. This site will contain all information regarding the convention as it comes up, so stay tuned! We just might pull this off yet!
