This has been such a long time comming. It was made in 1994 and I got a copy in 2001 ! Damn record companies. This album, with Blues Sarenceno sitting in CCs throne, bring Poison back where they started - good old fashioned rock and roll. The lyrics are very staright forward ( except Mr Smiley ) and usually about sex. This is "Look What The Cat Dragged In" part 2. Musically Bret has never sounded so good, Rik proves hes still the worlds best, Bobby, well Bobbys is Bobby and Blues does a great job on the axe.

BEST THING YOU EVER HAD - 7/10. An "although we have differnt opions and dont get along that well - if you give a chance I'll be the best thing you ever had." type song. Starts of with an accoustic guitar strummed then everyone joins in with Bret playing his 'harm. An up tempo song with an average ( very small ) solo, give a light start to the album.

SHUT UP, MAKE LOVE - 9/10. Starts with Bret rapping on top of a cool, very low bass riff. "....youve got your problems boy... sit down please.." Then the song about Brets problems starts. With "Let It Play" it was had a bad day? well.. let it play. Now its had a bad day? shut up and make love. A very fast song Blues does a great job during the verses and a good solo. Nb: the rapping over a deep bass riff is the basis of KID ROCK and LIMP BIZKIT's music today. Poison recorded this verse back in 1994 - long time before anyone else.

BABY GETS AROUND A BIT - 10/10. Finding out your girls a lady of the night. Brets got a slight country hick/ redneck accent here and it works a treat. I love the backing vocals during the bridge. Blues has a great sound on the 2nd lead guitar. One of Blues guitars adds a great country feel to the song.

COVER OF THE ROLLING STONE - 8/10. A Cover of the Dr. Hook classic. Im not familiar with the original so I cant compare. The 1st verse has a country feel then the drums and electic guitars kick in. The song was recorded the same day as "Shut Up, Make Love" The day Charlie Sheen was there. The song reminds me of Bon Jovi's "Love For Sale" - recorded in a very relaxed and loose state of mind.

BE THE ONE - 8/10. A "I'll be there for you... " type song. A slow paced song with a great CC-ish solo. The rythym guitar is very heavy and very loud. The lyrics are very good, and sung in a smooth low voice, which is the highlight of this song.

MR. SMILEY - 7/10. I have no idea what this song is about !? I first guessed that Mr Smiley was Bret Michaels Jr and it was a song about impotence. ...But nah. My second guess was that Mr Smiley was CC.... I dont know. Ive come to the conclusion Mr Smiley is a drug. Though I have no idea what a "yes man" and drugs have to do with each other. The solo is very cool, a tad weird, but cool none the less.

SEXUAL THING - 10/10 - Love isnt mentioned here but the words sin, lust & horny are. What Poison due best. "Jam Blues Man!" I love this song. The lyrics are very creative, very funny and very well written. "Glad to have met you, so pleased that youve..." What a great lewd verse - straight out of the NIKKI SIXX book of song writing. Musically theres is nothing more needed. ( Ok, maybe a CC solo instead then ). A classic.

LAY YOUR BODY DOWN - 10/10. The tempo slows down as Bret coaxes his lover. A long slow song that starts with just Bret and a piano and a backing guitar thrown in. All the beginings of another classic? You bet! The music is awesome, the lyrics... perfect! The guitar work is very Kotzen: lots of strumming as opposed to picking. As with Sexual Thing this song is faultless.

NO RING, NO GETS - 10/10. Another sex song. How frustrating it is trying to get the girl. The verses' are a real guitar feast! - a lead guitar playing over 2 rythym guitars. Beautiful. The solo dosnt quite do it for me but Riks beat and Brets vocal effort make this a hit. Again the lyrics are well written and fit the music to a T. You cant help but tap your feet to this.

THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT - 6/10. Im still not 100% with the lyrics of this album, but does Bret really say "Aint nothing you can do, when a girl goes down" ? ...um...ok..not really my cup of tea. As much as I get off on lewd lyrics, I prefer mine to be a little more tounge in cheek. I cant work out the rest of the songs lyrics either. But I love the music anyway, the backing voacls have a great pressence and the solo is one blues' best.

TRAGICALLY UNHIP - 71/10. Bret taking the mikey out of himself. Has all the makings of a hit - lots of guitars, backing vocals, a great solo and Bret bustin his ass, but the lyrics are a tad bland. As much as I can relate to them, I just feel the song is one verse stretched for for 3 minutes.

DOIN' AS I SEE ON MY TV - 8/10. The things people will do to be famous. This one has the same problems as the last. Though this is a lot catchier & I laugh every time I hear "Tried to act, my carrer just flopped, so I beat up my neighbour and I got on COPS..........cool!" This album
( as
"Look What..." did ) ends with something different, something funny. About wanting to be on TV.

ONE MORE FOR THE BONE - 91/10. Again with that unskinny theme. This time Bret's girls has "an ass like a truck". Very funny indeed. I love this song. I dont know why... I just do. The solo isnt the best, its all over the place, but it seems to fit the song, the lyrics are politcally incorrect & terribly corny but for all the wrong reasons this song rocks.
