1st Annual Friends of the Big Flashlight Reunion Even after nearly 15 years Staff shirts and exagerated stories ruled the day at Brookside Park. Claig, Steve, and Jeff kicked things off with burgers, brats, and beverages before meeting the rest of the staff at Welch Avenue Station. |

Notes from 2005: No duty log kept for 2005.
Notes from 2006: Another Friends of the Big Flashlight gathering has come and gone. This weekend's reunion went well and everyone who attended had an enjoyable time. This year we had representatives from UDA, RCA, SRO, and ISU DPS. Friday afternoon my wife, Sandy, and I met (Supervisors) Tom Duncan and Craig Odle at People's and, despite being the only patrons and still received no attention from the wait staff, stayed and relived several Incident Report-worthy memories. At 1800 hours we moved on to the Legends American Grill, a newish restaurant on the 7th floor of a Campustown building that offers a gorgeous view of campus and extremely average service and mediocre food. We were joined by former SRO/Beat Patrol Supervisor Darin Jacobs and his wife, Carrie, and later, Steve Radloff. The addition of Tom and the Jacobs added several new lies and embellishments to the stories told at the last two reunions. We left the Legends just prior to being asked to leave and moved on to Welch Avenue Station where apparently no new CDs have been purchased since we graduated, which is nice. Kelly Hayes who was passing through Ames joined the group at Welch for a while and we all adjourned for the evening at the extremely late hour of 2300. Saturday Steve and I set up the picnic gear at Brookside at 1000 and were joined by Dave and Rhonda Benson and their family. After a lunch of burgers, brats, and awesome chocolate cake, we did a bicycle tour of campus where Steve and I imparted knowledge to the Benson kids they weren't likely to hear from their parents. Because early move-in was just beginning we were also able to take a quick tour of Friley Hall which has changed a bit over the last fifteen years. Mr. Big's countenance is still on the backside of the North Friley arch, though. Saturday evening Steve, Darin, Carrie, Sandy, and I went out for one last group meal at a new yet unremarkable restaurant on the west end of Ames and tried to remember as many former staff members as possible to invite to the next gathering. I will post names on the Mr. Big website in case they google themselves and find the site. Folks who did contact me but had prior commitments were Sonya, Kris, Dan, Russ, Pam (TRA), and Larry, all hoping to make the next one. Rest assured, those who did not attend were talked about the most. Tentative dates for FotBF '07 are 8/3-5 or 8/10-12. Some folks whose names came up but can't be found include: Colleen Cahoon, Frank Sun, Trevor Anderson, Jeff Stebner, Jennifer Welch, Brigette Blanchard, Wendy Huegli, and several others I can't remember.
