The Tonkinese breed was originally produced by crossing the Burmese and Siamese breeds. The Tonkinese blends the best features of its ancestors into one beautiful, medium-sized cat that is remarkably dense and muscular. The Tonkinese is an intelligent, people-oriented cat with a sense of humour. They are warm and loving, intelligent and strong willed. They are naturals at inventing and playing games, using favourite toys to play fetch.

The Tonkinese has a moderate body and a sleek, soft coat and is available in a range of colours intermediate between their Burmese and Siamese parent breeds. They are available in solid and dark colour-points.

Natural Mink:
Body: medium brown, ruddy highlights acceptable. Points: dark brown. Nose leather: dark brown (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: medium to dark brown (may have a rosy undertone). Eye colour: aqua.

Champagne Mink:
Body: buff-cream to beige, reddish highlights acceptable. Points: medium brown. Nose leather: cinnamon-brown (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: cinnamon-pink to cinnamon-brown. Eye colour: aqua.

Blue Mink:
Body: soft, blue-grey with warm overtones. Points: slate blue, distinctly darker than the body colour. Nose leather: blue-grey (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: blue-grey (may have a rosy undertone). Eye colour: aqua.

Platinum Mink:
Body: pale, silvery grey with warm overtones. Not white or cream. Points: frosty grey, distinctly darker than the body colour. Nose leather: lavender-pink to lavender-grey. Paw pads: lavender-pink. Eye colour: aqua.

Solid colours:

Natural Solid:
Body: sable brown. Points: dark brown. Nose leather: dark brown (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: medium to dark brown (may have a rosy undertone). Eye colour: green to gold.

Champagne Solid:
Body: golden tan to light coffee-brown. Points: medium brown. Nose leather: cinnamon brown (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: cinnamon-pink to cinnamon-brown. Eye colour: green to gold.

Blue Solid:
Body: slate blue with warm overtones. Points: slate blue. Nose leather: blue-grey (corresponding to the intensity of the point colour). Paw pads: blue-grey (may have a rosy undertone). Eye colour: green to gold.

Platinum Solid:
Body: dove grey. Points: frosty grey. Nose leather: lavender-pink to lavender-grey. Paw pads: lavender-pink. Eye colour: green to gold.

Pointed Colours:

Body: fawn to cream.

Body: ivory with buff-tan shading.

Body: off-white with warm grey shading.
Points: slate blue.
