An American's Poem

September 11th, Two thousand one,
We lost too many daughters and sons.

Mothers & Fathers, Family & Friends,
If only we had known how this whole thing would end.

An enemy attacked...this morning...this day.
A nation, united, stood together and prayed.

We prayed for the rescuers, the wounded, the dead.
We prayed for their families who's hearts surely bled.

One was too many, thousands....inconceivable,
We questioned our God, How was this achievable?

Horrific stories of terror and fear,
most made us numb, most brought out our tears.

The voice of a wife, professing true love.
A mother who heard the last words from her son.

So many stories, we will never hear.
But we are Americans, and will hold them all dear.

As hours become days, diminished is hope,
America mourns, we must heal.....we must cope.

How long it will take?, its too early to tell.
The sooner the better, but we all know too well.

Most the world stands behind us, their condolences sincere.
They share in our grief..... our emotions....our fear.

How could one man harbor so much incredible hate?
And now he has written his very own fate.

He cant hurt America, so strong and so proud.
We will survive this and we scream it out loud.

Our foundation is freedom, continuing with that plan,
For we are Americans......and united we'll stand.
