THE DREAM |
She says, I see you far too clearly to be enchanted Though crystal balls and magic spells Are your eyes and mind And so she runs, fleet and swift Through dew like diamonds And it reminds her of a girl she once was But never knew And when he catches her Brings her to his heart and says Stay the night, or an eternity She says Yes, although I am in hiding Though I suspect I will never find me here And he gives her what magic charms he has against the night To ward off the spirits of those who would harm her and taunt her And he gives her what hope he has to share And wraps her tightly in gossamer thread Rolling and wrapping into a meal Until such time as there is hunger for her And he says to her You are safe here And you will find the dawn over my shoulder And there she is able to rest and find the peace She has for so long chased Through broken promises and shattered dreams That cut her feet and heart As she runs As she chases Faster and falling and crawling She chases him And he says I have always been within reach, just come to me There are no choices offered There is only what is meant And just before she gathers her courage around her to fall She asks What if I am not real And you are only dreaming Then I will live the dream He says 9/18/93 |
