it's all about the power trip
just watch this tiny world revolve within my hand.
and i've been around long enough
to question right from wrong
and i shudder to remember how
i got to be this strong.

she shaves her head in abdication
swears she'd never sell her soul
wanting wishing seeking answers
needs another dream to hold.
"if only it were summertime"
only cries when he's asleep
"if only we could leave tomorrow -
if only i were what you need"
she does her penance on her knees
knows wishing it won't make it so
wears her battlescars like rank
it's not as hard as letting go.

Sometimes I worry a little
when we're a little bit different.
When we're not quite in sync.
And I think in misconceptions.
I believe in the rainbow.
And the silver lining.
And that love conquers all.
But these are not realities.
Love isn't the deciding factor.
You need the ability to overlook
Minor irritations.
You have to be able to see
Without having to comment.
'If only' and 'why can't it be'
Will only lead to heartbreak.
Say, 'this is so'
And, 'we'll work with what we have'
And you will be well on your way
To being "happy."
It's wonderful to lean on someone.
Sometimes.
But I couldn't walk beside you
If I couldn't stand alone.
