~ A Sense of Humor is Important! ~
My grey hair wasn't a gift. I earned each and every single strand of it! I raised a son and a daughter and now I have four grandchildren. LOL!
My house, since my daughter and her three children live with me, is always full of noise and energy. Too bad they won't share that energy with me. They can keep the dang noise. ROFL!!
Both of my grandsons have been a treasure of humor for me. Let me tell you a few stories.
The one boy was only two-years-old at the time. We were living in a drafty old country home. Of course, since there were fields all around us, occasionally we had a few unwanted visitors. My grandson refered to them as "bugs" though they really were...
...and one night he was playing in the hall minding his own business when a poor, wee, scared lone mouse ventured out into the hall. You could have heard that boy's shriek a million miles away!!! I sped into the hall to see what was wrong and there he was with the mouse. All the doors were shut and the mouse was between him and freedom! The mouse was bouncing off the walls trying to get away from that crazy human boy and my grandson was practically walking on air trying to save himself! He kept screaming, "BUG! BUG! BUG!" I saved the poor boy like the heroine that I am and the terrified mouse disappeared under a door. You had to have been there!
And now a word or two about the other boy...
Now it was around the same time that the oldest boy was told something new and he reacted in a way that just astounded me!
He was only four-years-old and was doing the usual thing for kids. Playing. LOL!
His mom sat him down and told him that he was going to have a new baby brother or sister soon. He looked around bewildered and asked where the baby was. His mom pointed at her tummy and said the baby is in here and that is why mommy is so fat right now.
He grabbed her face, yanked her mouth wide open and screamed down her throat, "GET OUT OF THERE!!!!"
As I said before, my grandchildren have been a treasure for me. LOL!
My father is a very wise man who taught me almost everything I know. One of the greatest gifts he gave me was this one pearl of wisdom.
"It's okay to talk to yourself.
It's even okay to answer yourself.
Just don't get caught saying huh?"
My father is a very kind soul. As I grew up, I heard him say the words, "Deep subject" many times over whenever I would talk to him. It wasn't until I had left home and been on my own for a few years that I learned that was an incomplete quotation he would say....the rest of it was..."For such a shallow mind." I still to this day haven't asked him why he never finished the quote. LOL!
Bless you Daddy for your forbearance. :-)
Things my children have taught me.
1. If a child in a moving vehicle says they are sick, believe them...immediately.
2. If child number two comes running out of a room crying that child number one hit him, child number two usually, not always, but usually started it.
3. Peanutbutter sandwiches and cheese don't go together.
4. If something gets broken in the house, you probably have a poltergeist. No child would have done it.
5. If the child brings home a note from the teacher, it is because the teacher hates him and NOT because the child is acting up.
6. Never, and I repeat, never hang the toilet paper with the paper hanging on the outside. It will just end up in a pile on the floor since it makes a pretty swishing noise as it falls.
7. An adult can enjoy a make-believe tea party and there are no calories involved.
8. It hurts the mom more than the child the first time the child gets on the school bus and never looks back to wave goodbye.
9a. Cats don't seem to like being hung from their tails by chubby little hands.
9b. Cats leave mean scratches on parents when they are rescued by the parents.
10. It's easier being a grandma than it is being a mom. When you are a grandma, you can sit back and laugh at the mom who bemoans the fact that kids don't come with manuals.
