Yue's Orange Brother

In the Yue's cards article, I talked about the Clow Hierarchy and
how it affects the magical cards particularly. Here, you will learn the
little bits of how it influences Yue's orange brother, Cerberus, and also
Yue, himself.

Cerberus and Yue are the power guardians of those magical cards created
by Clow. Yue and Cerberus work together as one to manage these cards-- like
to select a master / mistress, to judge them, to guide them, and to even take
care of the cards themselves. Though Yue and Cerberus's personalities are far
from similar, they counterbalance one another-- which makes them a rather
interesting guardian duo.

Cerberus and Yue

Cerberus seems to like to make fun of his guardian brother Yue-- especially
since Yue takes his job too seriously to Cerberus. Cerberus, unlike Yue, has
a sweet-tooth. Though like Yue-- he has no need to eat, it is just one of
his little leisures.

Does Cerberus Care?

Down deep in Yue's orange brother, Cerberus really cares for his brother,
perhaps just as much or more than he would care for his master / mistress.
How safe is my assumption?

Well, since the first Manga and onwards to Judgment day, Cerberus keeps
saying one word-- always so worried about this thing he keeps saying. He
even topples in his sleep, get smacked by books, and can never stop
thinking of: where has this 'thing' gone. The word is 'Yue'. Cerberus
can never stop worrying about Yue-- his whereabouts and such.

During the Judgment, Cerberus did say a few 'rough words' at Yue--
saying how he has always been so cranky and bad-tempered as usual. I
would not necessarily think Yue is naturally 'always' bad-tempered. Other-
wise, you can say Cerberus is bad-tempered too: how he blasted at
Syaoran (the brat), how he says d*** when Sakura gets hit by Eriol,
and on and on. I do admit, however, Yue can be cranky. But--
when Sakura captures Yue finally, Cerberus tells Yue how he under-
stands Yue's heart still has Clow Read within and does not blame him.

Cerberus always asks for Yue's input on things. I think Yue is kind of
like the mind of reason or the heart of knowledge-- the powerhouse.

That means Cerberus might perhaps value Yue's input.
effect, Yue was willing to talk to Cerberus about his possible
disappearance. Yue was about to tell Cerberus almost every-
thing of his reasoning and think-abouts on this life-or-death
problem, but he was cut-off by Sakura. Also, Cerberus did
not quite get it-- since he did not quite 'feel' what was
Yue going through (like Cerberus asked, when meeting Yue
the first time after the Judgment, why Yue was always so
grumpy and Cerberus did not get it when Yue answered).
Yue's 'indirect-ness' on the matter shows how personal
of a topic he was trying to discuss to Cerberus.

Overall, they all show how close the two brother are, even
with the - thought-to-be - bickering at first. Cerberus feels
what Yue goes through. And Cerberus, though he seems to scold
Yue for it, understands too good of Yue's personality.

I mean, even later on when Yue really begins losing his
powers, Cerberus protects Yue from the house parts flying
all over place in the teddy episode. He lets Yue lean back
upon him -- after Yue saved Sakura from getting hit by the
teddy. Yue just looks up from his position upon the floor and
with Cerberus and Tomoyo helping and protecting him.

In the manga, Cerberus really gets alert on Yue's disappearing
problem when Cerberus 'sees' Yue's pendant / insignia / symbol
of the feathery winged moon flickering-- and lost its wings!

Whenever in the flashback, you see Yue and Cerberus together
as usual. Always together-- and there seems little discomfort
between the company of one another. Since Yue's emotions
got the best of him, Clow assumes Cerberus the position to
select a master / mistress-- since Yue cannot do it.

So, it is right to say Cerberus does care for his brother.

Cerberus Envies Yue?

Also, there is that issue of him envying Yue-- since Yue always
get the special treatment. Cerberus even says so and almost threw
a flour bag at Yue if it weren't for Sakura. He even konks Sakura upon
the head for her just letting Yue to not do anything in the house when
they are all stuck (Yue ends up cleaning up the kitchen without anyone
saying anything about it). Anyway, sure he may be jealous of Yue for
this-- for the special treatment everyone seems to give Yue. But
that makes it all the better for Cerberus to tease Yue more.

I personally, think Yue gets the special treatment due to his own
personality and his heart-into-things, first of all. Yue is more distant
from others-- since he is more private. Perhaps he is sort of a loner
due to his sudden emotional crash. When people have emotional
crash, they would do anything to have that not happen to them
again-- especially as they repair themselves. I guess it kind of
made Yue stronger in the long-run. Anyway, Sakura might have
been afraid that she might hurt Yue's sensitivity. I kind of think
Yue, in his inner self, is rather sensitive being. Yue probably gets
the special treatment, also, since his personality does not need
someone to verbally say what they want him to do. He will go
do it on his own. Another, Yue is closer to a human being
than Cerberus. And we do not need to explain on how
human nature can play a part in this.

Who is more powerful?

That is hard to tell. But I will give you some tidbits on this. Yue's
power is said to also have something to do with the moon's power itself.
So if it is the full moon, Yue is perhaps to one of his most max. power.
While Cerberus's power level is pretty much constant (except when he
puts in his self-will to the fight), Yue's power level fluctuates.

Yue was weaker than Cerberus, however, due to his sudden magic loss.
Now, you may wonder why Cerberus cannot give some of his magic to Yue
but that cannot do and will destroy the balance between them. Also, keep
in mind, Yue is powered by the moon and Cerberus is powered by the sun.
Those two, the sun and moon, are opposites. I think that would have harmed
Yue if that happened and would not have made much sense.

After Yue received magic from Touya, Yue restored. But-- the question
comes to if Yue became stronger than his usual self-- or a slightly weaker?
And how he is ranked when compared to Cerberus? As I said earlier, his
power fluctuates, meaning it does not stay on one level. Yue can always
become stronger than Cerberus if that is what you were hoping. It is
possible, due to this. But how powerful each character is-- that is not
judged by that only factor. ^_^ Remember.
