How to Draw Yue

We love our moon guardian so much that we sometimes want to replicate him--
but in our way! Though I, personally, am an amateur at replicating arts, I and
others can give you tips on making your 'Yue'-- or even possibly your own style.

Tips on Replicating Yue Artwork:
(1) Look at a lot of good CLAMP artwork, not just of Yue. Look at CLAMP art
like from the series RG-Veda or Magic Knights Rayearth (highly recommended).
I suggest these series since they are one of CLAMP's most detailed specific
and dedicated arts. However, it is good to check out their other series like:
Clover, X, Angelic Layer, Wish, Tokyo Babylon, and even CLAMP Detectives!
(2) A way some people learn is to trace the image. I know it may sound lame
but it does help people get the jest on how to draw him. First pick a Yue image
on the less complicating side. Personally, this does little for me but it helps
for some folks.
(3) Usually the pencil is your best friend. However, I bet some of you are
thinking that "the wastebasket is your best friend". I do not suggest using
pen, color pencils, markers, and especially - not - sharpies. Lines that are
erasable are good. However if you are doodling it--it may not matter.
(4) In the process, try doing it several times. Each time you draw the same
image-- like any math problem-- it gets better. Some may think this is boring
but it truly helps.
(5) Speaking of math, some people are rather logical and no matter what
they cannot make heads or tails with it. However if speaking in math terms,
things seem to come out quite nicely. We will say your best friend is Geometry.
But if you do not know geometry, it is okay-- because all you do is focus on
the lines in each box. It works well and later you do not even need the graph
paper to draw. The graph paper technique is like a kid on training wheels.
Some people continue using this method-- since it does look professional.

Here is an example of an image put on graph paper. Click on this link here for
the original image. Always have the original image at hand!

Yue on big grid paper.

A known problem using this technique is that-- well-- how you get
the image on graph / grid paper without a photo editor? You can fix
the grid on an a transparency (since you are bound to use it in some math
class I would think). That way you see the lines of the grid and whatever
you put over it.

(6) Work on the 'pieces' you know you are not good with. If you are
bad at drawing eyes, work on drawing eyes. If you are bad with hair,
work on drawing hair. The drawings do not even have to look like Yue's.
Just work on putting your imagination on the paper.
(7) Watch people who can draw well and see how they do it. It does not
even need to be a person drawing Yue. Just drawing any anime, manga, or
even a comic figure. Ask the person for tips if necessary.
(8) You can take drawing / art classes-- for the fundamentals.
However, taking an art / drawing class does not necessarily create
your style. Practice helps you create your own style.

* Ultimately * Keep trying and enjoy what you are doing!

Here, Moon Glaciers selected some official cel sketches and second layers for
you fans to look at. They may help you in drawing your Yue. You can check
my image gallery Yue Illustrations section to find more there as well.

Thanks for your participation. Class dismissed!
