Mooch's Diary 1999

Year of the Cat

[ END OF PAGE ]

7-1-99
Dear Diary,
Guess what? Fuzz and I got an email today from our country cousin, Rocky. (Of course, we had to go to Aunt Dodie's to read our email--oh, I hope Mom gets her computer fixed soon!!!) It was so exciting---here's the whole thing:

July 1, 1999
Dear Cousins Mooch & Fuzz,
It was a really exciting day today. While Mom and Dad were at work today, Tarbaby and I had a real scary adventure. We must have all been napping, when a fourteen foot long king snake sneaked in the house. I can't remember whose turn it was to be on watch, but we slipped up. Big Sis and I cornered it in the bathroom right behind the potty and held it there until Mom and Dad came home. I thought they would NEVER come home, but finally they did. Dad trapped it first with a sponge mop, and then put it in the trash can and took it to a new home at the river. It was really scary, but we were brave - all but baby brother Gizmo. He just slept through the whole scary thing as if nothing was wrong. I'm still awfully nervous - I don't know if I will be able to go in the bathroom to use the litter box after it gets dark. Maybe Mom or Dad can help me watch for things that go "slink" in the night.

Your brave country cousin,
Rocky

P. S. - I'm sending some photos that Dad took while Tarbaby and I were swimming with Mom. She's such a natural at it, but I'm still nervous when it comes to water. Dad says that the pool has over 6,000 gallons of water in it - that might be enough to drown a small-type kitty like me!

As you can see, our cousin Rocky is a very brave boy! However, he does tend to exaggerate sometimes. Uncle Kenny said the snake was really only about three feet long!

And yes, we finally received the photos of the "water babies". Gee, maybe Mom could get a pool--looks like fun! She could put it out on our balcony.

Dear Diary,
Mom and Aunt Dodie went out to visit Uncle Kenny and Aunt Iris and our country cousins. They had so much fun and we didn't get to go!! They watched fireworks and they got to see Cousin Tarbaby swim in the pool with Aunt Iris. Why won't Mom take us to the country? We'd love it--I know we would. Fuzz would probably be scared of all the wide open spaces. He's such a city cat!

Dear Diary,
Well, Mom and Uncle Kenny finally sent Mom's computer to be fixed. They had to send it all the way to New Jersey. It cost so much to ship, we're afraid Mom may not be able to buy kitty food for a while. Fuzz and I snooped in the cabinets just to be sure we still have plenty of food. We did. Mom may have to eat kitty food too! Poor Mom. Why couldn't she be rich like Aunt Dodie? That crazy old lady has so much money--why doesn't she give some to her poor little nephews??!!
Mooch

Dear Diary,
Yippee and yahoo!! Mom got her computer back today!! And it is working just fine!! Uncle Kenny and Aunt Iris and Aunt Dodie all came over to get us back on the information highway!! Do I seem a little excited?? Well, we all are!! Now Fuzz and I can surf again while Mom is at work all day (or whatever it is she is really doing), and soon, very soon we will be getting all that neato stuff in the mail again that we just love to order! (Mom really should hide her credit cards from us just a little better.) What a wonderful day it has been today!!

Georgia
7-16-99
Dear Diary,
Today is Aunt Elsie's birthday and Fuzz and I splurged and got her a pair of those Dr. Seuss Grinch shoes just like Mom wears. Then mom gave her one of those hemp ankle bracelets that she makes. She and mom decided that they are looking more and more alike these days (yeah right, from the ankles down maybe!). We can't tell you how old Aunt Elsie is , but she is even older than Mom! All and all it was a pretty good day for Aunt Elsie, cause her parents and nephew came from Georgia to visit her too. She definitely had a happy birthday.
Mooch
7-24-99
Dear Diary,
Aunt Al came to visit today and messed around with Mom's computer. We were so worried that it would end up broken again. (That's what happened the last time Mom let someone touch it---we won't mention who.....) With all her messing around so much, she changed some of the sounds and then she downloaded something and later couldn't remember where she put it. Lost in the blackhole of cyberspace!!!! Good grief!! I don't know why Mom lets her even touch it!!!
Mooch
7-27-99
Dear Diary,
Fuzz and I heard a rumor that our Aunt Dodie wants to have her own diary online just like me. Hmpf! We'd like to know what that old lady does that anyone would want to read about! Something must be up though, 'cause she sure spends a lot of time at her computer. She's definitely up to something! We're gonna keep an eye on her for sure!

Grandaddy Longlegs
7-30-99
Dear Diary,
Today is Grandaddy Longlegs' birthday. We're not sure how old he is, but it must be about a million in cat years!
Mooch
8-12-99
Dear Diary,
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! We just heard---Aunt Al has her very own website now. We can hardly wait to go visit it and check out her Wacky World!!Yea, Aunt Dodie! She made it happen!!

8-6-99
Dear Diary,
Today Mom got a surprise phone call from Alphie, her best friend from High School. We met her about 2 years ago but she and Mom had lost contact and hadn't spoken since then. She lives in Texas now. One of the first things Alphie asked Mom was "Can you go online?" And Mom said, "Of course I can!" So now she and mom will be chatting online every chance they get!!

8-20-99
Dear Diary,
Mom is feeling sick today--she has a sore throat. Looks like Fuzz and I will be taking care of her. Fuzz says the only thing he knows of to do is fix chicken soup, but we both know Mom won't go for that--silly old lady--she's a vegetarian!!
Mooch
8-22-99
Dear Diary,
Today is Aunt Lilka's birthday. She is old, but not as old as Mom or Aunt Elsie or Aunt Dodie or Grandaddy Longlegs. Mom is still feeling a little sick, but Aunt Al talked her into going to the store to get stuff to make a Ballerina tutu for her little girl Kelsey's birthday.
Mooch
8-23-99
Dear Diary,
Mom spread the material out to start on cousin Kelsey's tutu, and I helped!! I was right there in the middle of it. Mom had a hard time smoothing out the material to pin it and cut it with me playing in the middle of it, but she managed to get it ready, and then she took the whole thing over to Aunt Lilka's to sew it together. It is almost finished now, and it is sooo cute. Cousin Kelsey will just love it.
Mooch
8-27-99
Dear Diary,
Well Mom and Aunt Dodie fimally took Aunt Lilka out for her birthday. Those old ladies sure are slow about stuff. But they had a good time and Mom brought home a "doggie-bag" from J. Parino's. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!
Mooch
8-29-99
Dear Diary,
Mom's friend Kat came over today to visit. She is ok--just another boring old lady to us kitties. They sat and played on that silly computer all afternoon. Mom was giving Kat some lessons on how to use the computer, and we think Aunt Kat will be getting a computer of her own soon. Oh no!!
Mooch
9-4-99
Dear Diary
Boy, was Mom busy today!! First Uncle Kenny called and asked Mom if she wanted to meet him and Aunt Iris, Aunt Dodie, and Uncle Pat and Aunt Shelley for breakfast at the Golden Corral. She went and they had a good time. Mom hadn't seen Uncle Pat and Aunt Shelley for a while and she was glad they were there. Then she went to Cousin Kelsey's birthday party - she is 5 years old today. Unbelievable!! I remember when she was a newborn and lived with us for a couple of months. Kelsey just loved her tutu Mom made for her and Aunt Al took a couple of pictures of her in it. They had cake and ice cream and lots of presents for Cousin Kelsey. Then that evening Mom and Aunt Al and Aunt Kat went out. Mom was supposed to meet one of her online friends, but they never did find each other, so I guess they are gonna try again some other time. And after all that, Aunt Al spent the night with us too!! Gee, Mom didn't have one free minute for her poor little kitties!!
Mooch
9-5-99
Dear Diary,
Today Mom took Aunt Al to pay some of her bills, then Aunt Dodie came over and they all went out to the country to visit Aunt Poggi and her bunch, and Grandaddy Longlegs. They helped Aunt Poggi with her computer, she is just learning about cyberspace, and needed some lessons. So they got her on her way to the information highway, and now she will be visiting our webpage too!! And after a really busy weekend, Aunt Al went home and things are quiet again, and back to normal. All this activity is stressful for kitties, you know!
Mooch
9-10-99
Dear Diary,
Aunt Dodie tried to be sneaky today. She came to our house while Mom was gone and took a bunch of pictures of me and Fuzz. She almost got away with it too, but Mom caught her just as she was driving away! He-he-he! That old Aunt Dodie just isn't fast enough!
Mooch
9-12-99
Dear Diary,
Fuzz and I are soooo jealous! Our Aunt Dodie has a new kitty friend---a little black and white kitty named Angel. She gets to talk to this kitty every time she goes for a walk. One time Mom went with her and she got to meet Angel too. Boo-hoo-hoo! We want to meet Angel. We want to go visiting and have fun like Mom and Aunt Dodie!
Mooch
9-16-99
Dear Diary,
Aunt Lilka and Mom's friend Amy came over to make some plans for the Halloween party that Amy is throwing at her house. Fuzz and I are thankful that they are not having the party here at our place, because all of Mom's weird friends and family at once would be more than we kitties could handle!! Fuzz and I listened in and it sounds like one crazy party. They are going to dress weird and tell scary stories and eat and drink all night. We sure hope Mom makes it home ok!!
Mooch
9-18-99
Dear Diary,
Today Mom went and got Aunt Al and they did all kinds of crazy stuff!! Mom colored Aunt Al's hair (again!!). Wonder what Aunt Al's real hair color is...? Mom put henna on her own hair, Then they put henna tattoos on each other. Mom's is the sun and Aunt Al's is a butterfly. They tried to talk Aunt Dodie into coming over for a henna tattoo, but she wouldn't do it. What a party pooper she is!! And Aunt Al is gonna spend the night so she and Mom can get up bright and early to go get Amy and then drive to Kansas City for the Renaissance Festival.
Mooch
9-19-99
Dear Diary,
Well Mom and Aunt Al didn't get up quite as early as they wanted to this morning. But they jumped in Mom's car anyway to go get Amy and headed to the RenFest. They stopped at a gift shop on the way and they all three got matching t-shirts. And Mom got another t-shirt with one of her favorite sayings on it: "Bite Me". They had a great time--they bought stuff and more stuff, they watched the bellydancers, and watched the henna tattooing, and there was a parade with people dressed up in all kinds of weird clothes. There were knights and ladies, and drummers, and so much more stuff to do that they are wanting to go back!! And with that t-shirt that Mom got on the way up there, (she just had to put it on) Aunt Al said she got a few nibbles!?!? Fuzz and I wish we could have seen it all!!
Mooch
9-23-99
Dear Diary,
Well, Fuzz and I know that Mom and all her friends and family are weird, but can you believe this: Mom and Aunt Dodie and Aunt Lilka and Amy all went out tonight to go drumming in the woods. They are celebrating the Fall Equinox. They had so much fun that they are going to do it again and again. And even weirder is that there are some more of Mom's friends that want to go next time!! Fuzz and I are really starting to wonder about those crazy old ladies!!
Mooch
9-25-99
Dear Diary,
Today Mom and Aunt Dodie went out for breakfast. Then they took their cameras and went for a walk at the Nature Center. Poor Aunt Dodie had a heck of a time. She climbed up on a rock, then BOOM!! She must have fallen off, 'cause Mom said she had bruises and blood everywhere!! That crazy old lady must think she is still a kid! Good grief--even I know better than to try and jump from high places (like Mom's balcony). I bet Aunt Dodie won't try that trick again!!
Mooch
9-27-99
Oh Mom, can't we pleeeeeeease go out on the balcony????? Dear Diary,
Mom called Aunt Dodie and talked and talked about our website. Mom keeps saying to Aunt Dodie, "One of these days, we need to take Mooch and Fuzz to PetsMart," but they never do it. I don't think they ever will! We never get to go anywhere. Here's Mooch, just watching the world go by We just sit and look and look outside, but Mom won't let us go anywhere! Mom and Aunt Dodie just go off and leave us poor kitties while they go have fun in their people world. Ah, poor sad kitties.....

Dear Diary,
Today Fuzz and I played a new game! Mom gave us a really long string to play with, so I carried it in my mouth and walked through the apartment dragging the string behind me. When Fuzz saw the string he started chasing it. It was great fun and Mom just laughed and laughed! We had so much fun we will have to do it everyday!

Here are some other games we really like too. And once, a long time ago, Mom gave me the very best game of all---for Christmas. She gave me my very own roll of paper towels, to do with whatever I wanted to. Oh, did I have fun that day!!!

10-8-99
Dear Diary,
Tonight Mom and Aunt Dodie went to the library for their first night of volunteer work. They had them doing the craziest thing---cleaning telephones to be moved to the new library. They are going to open a brand new bigger and better library and Mom and Aunt Dodie have volunteered for the computer area. Those two old ladies must be crazy! They've each got a computer at home to play with---so why do they need to go to the library and play with those computers too? AND THEY VOLUNTEERED TO DO THIS!! Not even a paycheck so Mom can buy Fuzz and me treats and toys.
Mooch
10-14-99
Dear Diary,
Mom's friend Beth came over tonight and she played on Mom's computer all evening. She played with Mom's virtual cats---our namesakes---Mooch and Fuzz. Beth just laughed and laughed and had the most fun! Fuzz and I think she should get out more often!! And Mom's friend Amy was here too. Of course they talked about that silly Halloween Party they are planning. Mom has been working on her costume every free minute she has (well, when she's not on that silly computer)!
Mooch
10-20-99
..and I helped!! Dear Diary,
Mom and Aunt Dodie were supposed to go to the library again tonight, but it was postponed because the new computer furniture at the new library did not arrive yet, so Mom got to stay home with us. But what did she do? Worked on that silly Halloween costume!

10-24-99
Dear Diary,
Mom went and got Aunt Al today and they went shopping. They bought pumpkins for the Halloween Party. Aunt Lilka is going to carve one and Mom's friend Juan is going to carve one. Mom sure is looking forward to this Halloween Party they are having and she is almost finished with her costume.

Mom and Aunt Dodie got to go to the new library tonight. They didn't get to play with the new computers yet, but they got a tour of the new library and got to see all their new computers. Mom says they even have one with a 21" monitor. WOW! Fuzz and I could both
sit on top of that one!!

Dear Diary,
Our Mom---Queen of the Harem Well today is the big day---Mom's Halloween Party! She went to get Aunt Al and they put all those carved pumpkins and all that yummy food in the car and took it to Amy's house. Then they got all gussied up in their Halloween costumes and went and got Aunt Lilka and Juan and off they went to the party. They had a lot of fun. Mom said she was a little disappointed that a lot of people they invited didn't get to come to the party. But on the other hand, they only had to kick two people out of the house because they weren't being nice. So that made Mom a little happier. And Mom finally got to meet her internet friend Johnno. He is the one she emails and chats with on her computer all the time. She had told him about the party and so he was there with his nifty new digital camera (kinda like Aunt Dodie has). He took lots of pictures and he is going to send them to Mom 'cause she told him we needed them to put here on our website. Mom didn't get home till after 3:00 am...

Dear Diary,
Come on, get up, Mom!! Mom was so mad at me this morning!! She always gets up at 5 AM and gets in the shower, then she gives us hungry kitties our breakfast. Well, at 5:30 she was still fast asleep so I thought I better wake her up!! So what if it's Sunday? I don't know what "sleeping in" means and I was hungry! I tried and tried and tried! I thumped her on the head with my paw about a hundred times, and that didn't work. So when I saw the glass of water on the headboard I thought maybe that would work. When she heard me trying to tip over the water it woke her up alright, but only long enough for her to grab the glass and set it on the floor! So that's when I called for backup. Thump! Thump! On the head again. When she opened her eyes she saw both Fuzz and me staring hungrily at her, and we finally got our breakfast! And oh yeah, the library again today!

Dear Diary,
Mom was soooooooo mad at me this morning! I still can't figure out what weekends are for and why Mom doesn't get up and give us breakfast. I was so hungry this morning that I had to wake Mom up at 5:30 AM to feed me. But after she went back to bed I was still hungry, so I woke her up again! Mom, how could you shut your poor little Moochie-Woochie in the bathroom like that??

Happy Thanksgiving!! Mom went to Aunt Dodie's house today to have dinner with her and Aunt Lilka and GrandDaddy Longlegs and Uncle Pat. Mom was suppsed to take a really long trip this weekend to Georgia, but she didn't get to go. She was sad, but Fuzz and I are glad, we just hate it when she goes so far away.

Dear Diary,
Mom's friend Kat got her very own computer and Mom spent the whole day over there helping her with it. I guess they had a lot of fun looking at our website. Kat learned a lot of stuff from Mom, and now they will be chatting on the computer forever.

Dear Diary,
Mom sure is spending a lot of time with
other kitties. First, she went over to Aunt Dodie's house and played with Raow. Then Aunt Dodie and Mom both went to Kat's house. She wanted to learn more computer stuff, so off they went. Aunt Dodie took her nifty digital camera and she took pictures of Kat's cats(!) Max and Pepsi. That Max sure is a crazy cat!!

Dear Diary,
WOW!! Mom just told us to pack all our little kitty things, 'cause we are moving!! We start tomorrow. We have about a hundred boxes to pack, but it will be fun 'cause we are getting a bigger apartment downstairs. We will have twice as much room to run around in!! Yippee!!
Mooch
12-1-99
Dear Diary,
We helped Mom move furniture today. Well, really Mom shut me and Fuzz in the bathroom while her friends Johnno and Juan moved the furniture. But we did watch out the window! Then they carried boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff downstairs to the new apartment. Mom's friend Amy helped too. It was getting really late and Fuzz and I were starting to get worried about this whole moving thing - Mom, don't forget to take us!! Finally, Mom gathered up all our food and toys and the litter box and we got to go too!!
Mooch
12-2-99
Look at all those boxes! Dear Diary,
We are still moving. Boxes, boxes, boxes, and more boxes. Mom's friend Amy and Aunt Lilka have been helping, too. Fuzz and I just can't believe how much bigger this apartment is!!
Mooch
12-3-99
Dear Diary,
We finished moving all the stuff today. Aunt Dodie came over to help. It sure is a good thing that so many people came to help 'cause Mom and us couldn't have done it all by ourselves. Now we get to help Mom open all those boxes and snoop through everything. I can't wait. (Mom says I am such a nosey little cat!!)
Mooch
12-4-99
Dear Diary,
It is soooooo funny! Mom can't find anything! She looks and looks and looks, but so much stuff is still in boxes. I don't know why she doesn't just ask me where stuff is, we snooped and know where EVERYTHING is. Well, I had to make sure that me and Fuzz knew where all OUR stuff was!! We know Mom will never be able to find it.

Dear Aunt Dodie,
Mom is soooooooo mad at me that she told me I had to be the one to email you. Mom caught me today in your banana tree again. I dug, and dug, and dug and made myself a potty. I couldn't help it I had to go pee so bad!! Well, Aunt Dodie, why didn't you ever take that silly banana tree home instead of leaving it here to tempt a poor kitty like me? The dirt is just purrfect for digging a potty in, and I just couldn't help it!! Mom says it is dead for sure now. She is really mad at me. Will you tell her that I didn't mean it?? And tell her that you didn't want that old banana tree anyway?? If she stays mad at me I'm afraid she will tell Santa. It is almost Christmas, you know. And if Santa finds out, I will be one sad little kitty on Christmas morning. Oh, please, Aunt Dodie!! I hope you aren't mad at me too!!

Dear Diary,
Merry Christmas!! Mom let us open our Christmas gifts this morning. We got so much stuff - new cushions to sleep on, new scratching pads and a new scratching post that moves, treats and toys, and even some of our favorite expensive kitty food that Mom doesn't buy very often. We even got a new bag of catnip. I guess Mom and Aunt Dodie didn't tell Santa after all, about me peeing in the banana tree. I was sure worried that I wouldn't get anything!!!

A little later Mom and Aunt Lilka went to Aunt Dodie's house. They had dinner and I guess they were all very good old ladies this year 'cause Santa brought them all kinds of neat stuff too!! What a fun day we all had!! Oh yeah, Aunt Elsie just LOVED the M&M PJ's and blanket!

Dear Diary,
Fuzz and I were both a little upset with Mom tonight. First her friend Beth came over. Then they left and came back with a little black kitten. He was cute and everything, but Mom knows we have NO room for more kitties. Well... Mom left again, and came back with Aunt Lilka and Cousin Tiny (who is now named Tiny Wade 'cause he likes to wade in the water in the bathtub). Then we found out that cousin Tiny and this new black kitten are brothers. Fuzz figured it out - he showed me that neither of these kittens has a tail!! This whole apartment was crazy 'cause the little black kitten hated everyone - even his brother Tiny. Fuzz and I didn't much care for the black kitten ourselves, but Tiny loved everyone and drove us all nuts! I had to go hide in Mom's bedroom--I was so upset, but everything calmed down again, 'cause Beth took the black kitten to a new home, and she also took Aunt Lilka and cousin Tiny back to their home. Fuzz and I sure are glad none of those kittens stayed here!!

Dear Diary,
Today is New Year's Eve and we've been hearing a lot about this Y2K Bug. We don't know what it's all about, but when we heard all this talk about the end of the world we were a little worried. Must be a pretty big bug, bigger than the ones me and Fuzz like to chase. Fuzz heard from somewhere (he checks out CNN News all the time) that we should have plenty of food and water on hand, so when Mom wasn't looking we snooped. I guess we are ready for this Y2K Bug 'cause there are two big bags of dry food in the pantry and more canned food than we could count. How much food can this Y2K Bug eat?? He's gotta be one big bug!! We don't know if Mom has any food, but us kitties and the Big Bug will share with her if she gets hungry!

Mom says if this Big Bug doesn't eat us too, she and Aunt Dodie are going to remodel our web site after the first of the year. They want to put up new wall paper, and add a big long list of all our favorite kitty-cat links. Mom also wants to tell everybody about her work, so Fuzz has been on the Internet day and night looking for stuff about microfilming. That's what Mom says she does all day. We don't know what it means, but I know Fuzz will find out. Who knows what else might change? Mom and Aunt Dodie have big ideas, but we wonder if it will ever happen......
