For Pointless I bought two little LGB-diesels. They looked far too new, so I made them look old. The blue engine was just painted while the green engine's cab was heavily modified.
Painting with rust-effect was easy: I sprayed them both with a red primer. I then covered the areas that should remain rusty with Maskol - a masking fluid- or photo-glue (the rubbery kind.) After that dried I sprayed them in their main color. Another day later I used tweezers to remove paint and masking of the covered areas and presto ! a flaked paint-effect...
Later I used some rustpowders (Carr's) in wet matt varnish in some of the red/brown areas. |
