STATE OF MISSOURI
COUNTY OF SCOTLAND
In the matter
of Invalid Pension Claim of John P. Pedigo No. 211772
ON THIS 29th day of January A.D. 1881; personally
appeared before me a Clerk of the Circuit Court in
and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to
administer oaths JAMES BRADLEY aged 33 years, a resident in the
County of Scotland, and State of Missouri, whose Post
Office address is Bible Grove Scotland County
Missouri and JONATHAN PIERCE aged 39 years, a resident in the
County of Schuyler, and State of Missouri, and whose
Post Office address is Bible Grove Scotland County
Missouri well known to me to be reputable and
entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declare
in relation to the aforesaid case, as follows:
That they know and
are well acquainted with John P. Pedigo of Scotland
County, Missouri late of Co. C. 21st Mol Infy that they
have known him well, been well acquainted with him and
have been near neighbors all of the time from the month
of May A.D. 1866 to the present time and date hereof that
they have seen him nearly every week of the said period
and often time more frequently lining as they do in his
immediate neighborhood. That for each and every year of
said period to wit from the month of May 1866 to the
present time he has been troubled and afflicted with
chronic diarrhea that during each and every year he has
been greatly incapacitated thereby from performing manual
labor for said period, and in the warm weather of the
summer months has been almost totally incapacitated for
performing manual labor and for the entire period at all
seasons of the year he was greatly incapacitated, that on
an average for each and every year since the said month
of May 1866 up to the present time he has not been able
to perform more one third of the labor that he otherwise
could perform were it not for the said chronic diarrhea
that they said afflicts know these facts from thiere own
observations having seen him often for all of said period
they further declare that they have no interest in said
case and are not concerned in its prosecution.

On this 22 day of February 1881 personally appeared
before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the said
County, duly authorised to administer oaths J.J. Wieland aged 29 years and Lewis F. Garrison aged 34 years both being residents
of County of Scotland, Missouri, and both having
their Post Office addresses Bible Grove of said
county and state, well known to me to be reputable
and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn
declare in relation to the aforesaid case as follows:
That they know and
are well acquainted with John P. Pedigo late of Company C
21sst Missouri Infantry Vols. that they knew and were
well acquainted and resided int the same neighborhood
with the said John P. Pedigo during the entire years of
A.D. 1865 and 1866. tht during that time they saw him
frequently and knew his physical condition that they know
that he was during all and each of those years afflicted
and troubled greatly with chronic diarrhea that he was
thereby greatly incapacitated from performing manual
labor that during that time he could not perform more
than one third of the labor upon his farm that he
otherwise could have performed had it not been for said
chronic diarrhea that said incapacity to labor was caused
solely in consequence of said disease that they know this
from their personal knowledge and acquaintance as
aforesaid that they have no interest in said case nor are
they concerned in the prosecution of said Pedigo's
pension claim.

Captain Benjamin S. Palmer
STATE OF MISSOURI
COUNTY OF SCOTLAND
The
undersigned resident of said county Post Office
Memphis Scotland Co Mo says on his oath he was late
Captain of Company C 21 Reg Mo Inf Vol and well
acquainted with John P. Pedigo late Corp of said
company and has personal knowledge of the fact that
while in the line of his duty as a soldier near
Pittsburg Landing Tennessee in the Field after the
battle of Shiloh Tennessee in the month of April 1862
he contracted Chronic Diarrhea on account of which he
was sent to hospital said diability resulting from
exposure to the inclemency of the weather and change
of climate and that he was free from said disease at
and before his entry into the service and has
suffered with the same at discharge Dec 5 1864 and
continuously since and affiant has no interest in his
claim from pension.

STATE OF MISSOURI
COUNTY OF SCOTLAND
ON THIS 29th
day of January A.D. 1881; personally appeared before
me a Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the
aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths
ROBERT
SMITH aged 55
years, a resident in the County of Scotland, and
State of Missouri and MICHAEL CASHMAN aged _ years, a resident of Memphis
in the County of Scotland, and State of Missouri, who
being duly sworn according to law, state that they
are acquainted with John P. Pedigo applicant for
Invalid Pension; and know the said John P. Pedigo to
be the identical person of that name who enlisted or
volunteered as a private in Company "C"
Twenty First Regiment of Missouri Infy Vols., and who
was discharged at Nashville, Tennessee on or about
the 5th day of December 1864 by reason of the
expiration of his term of service.
That the said
John P. Pedigo while in the line of his duty at or
near Cairo (on the Ohio river) in the State of
Illinois did on or about March 1862 become disabled
in the following manner, viz.: that while on a
steamboat on the Ohio river on the way to Shiloh
Tennessee he ws taken with the chronic diarrhea or
diarrhea that he had frequent and continual
operations that greatly reduced him. That said attack
of diarrhea was very severe and that it frequently
afflicted him during the full remainder of the time
of their acquaintance with him.
That the facts
stated are personally known to the affiant by reason
of the fact that they were privates in said company
"C" 21st Missouri Infantry at the said time
and long afterwards that said diarrhea continued that
said Pedigo was placed in a Regimental Hospital at
Shiloh Tennessee in April 1862 and was there treated
for said diarrhea that he was soon after sent away to
some hopital to be treated for said diarrhea. That we
saw the said Pedigo at Memphis Tennessee in the
summer of 1863 where he remained till the end of that
year and were with him from June 1863 till January
1864 and that during that time he was almost
continually afflicted with said diarrhea and was once
during that time in the Regimental Hospital to our
recollection. That he was often times and frequently
afflicted with .....(copy cut off)
And deponents
further state that they well acquainted with the
claimant, having known him for at least ever since
the year 1861 and further that ther knowledge of the
facts above stated they derived from said
acquaintance, and from having served as privates of
Company C of the Twenty-first Regiment of Missouri
Infantry Volunteers, from the 1st day of October 1861
to the 5th day of December 1864 And deponent further
state that the claimant was a good sound able-bodied
man at and prior to enlistment, so faar as they knew
and that they are totally disinterested in this
claim.

Statement of
George Stine
STATE OF MISSOURI
COUNTY OF SCOTLAND
On This 7th
day of February A.D. 1881 personally appeared before
me Charles S. Martin Clerk of the Circuit Court the
same being a Court of Record within and for the
county and state aforesaid George W. Stine who being
duly sworn according to law upon his oath says that
he enlisted in Company I of the 21st Missouri
Infantry in September 1861 and served in said company
until after the fall of 1864 that he knew and was
well acquainted with John P. Pedigo of Company C of
said Regiment that he knew said Pedigo was afflicted
with the diarrhea during a great deal of that time
and that he was absent from his command in
consequence of said diarrhea a large portion of the
time while in the service aforesaid that in the year
1862 this affiant was commissioned Lieutenant fo said
Company until mustered out in 1864.
