A/N: This story takes place during the days of Silver Millennium and the
last part is during the Great Battle on the moon. This is my third attempt of an
Ami/Zoi fic. Why? Because I LOVE them as a couple... well other than that it is
because I am utterly bored and do not have anything better to do. Anyway I don't
have a beta-reader or whatever it is you called it, so you can see a lot of
grammar mistakes and it may get confusing at certain parts and I did not revise
this whole story.
Well this sign ~ indicates the beginning and end of a dream and the
words in italics are the mental conversation. Hope you like this story, even if
most of you find it rather juvenile, plot less and the story is moving at a fast
pace. Well R&R!
Disclaimer: SailorMoon belongs to Naoko Takeuchi though I do wish Ami and
Zoisite are mine.
********************************
A figure of a girl lay on the cold stone floor of her balcony looking up at
the sky: something that she loves to do since her childhood days. The weather at
this time of the year is unusually cold, but unlike many she has always loved
the cold weather and welcomes it compared to the hot summer that her friends
seemed to worship. How can she fear this coldness and how can it affect her when
ice is her element? She never feels quite comfortable whenever summer embrace
the land and wished quietly that it will be over soon; but now summer is months
away and she is going to enjoy this freezing weather while she can.
The coldness from the stones crept through her giving her comfort. Many would
think she is mad if they were to see her in this cold night air. The girl then
stood and walked to the edge of the balcony; the full moon glowed proudly on the
black sky. The stars smiled softly at her and seemed to chant her name, Ami,
whilst the soft breeze kissed her cheeks and played fondly with her dark blue
hair: her most interesting feature. Blue may be the colour of her planet,
Mercury, but ironically Mercurians have extremely beautiful silver hair. She's
probably the only Mercurian who has deep dark blue hair (thanks to the genes
that she inherited from her mother). Those who are not familiar with the
Mercurians thought her hair was too black that it looked blue whenever light
touches it and they would take a second glance at her just to make sure that
their eyes are not tricking them; others finds it hard to believe that she is
actually from Mercury, but she has learned to ignore the annoying stares that
people give her whenever they lay their eyes on her hair.
Her whole body ached from the tough training she went through today. Kida,
her trainer, is starting to get crossed at every minuscule mistake that she
made; something that she noticed a week ago. Rumour has it that Kida found out
that her fiancé was disloyal, thus the reason for her bad mood for the past
seven days. She doesn't blame Kida for being angry, but that doesn't give her
the right to throw her anger at others. She talked to Kida today, tried to
reason with the older woman, but what does she gets in return? Well other than
having to do a hundred push-ups, she has to wake up at four in the morning to
swim in the freezing lake near the castle for three whole hours without
stopping. Not that she minds the coldness of the lake, just that the thought of
swimming for three hours non-stop sounds mad.
She thought by giving Kida time, her anger might ebb, but in the end she
found that nothing will cool down the woman's temper. She has to thank her lucky
star that tomorrow is Sunday and so her punishment will be dragged to Monday
instead; well... after a long quarrel broke out between the two where Kida
insisted that her punishment is be done on Sunday. She has had it with Kida's
temper and she needs to tell Queen Serenity about Kida before Kida decided to
torture her to death and the fact that she does not want to do the
punishment.
"Maybe that will knock some sense into that old woman," Ami said quietly to
herself.
She sighed deeply and walked to her room, leaving the windows and the big
glass door leading to the balcony open and she let herself fall into the comfort
of her soft bed that smelled like the ocean. Ami has no idea how it managed to
produce such a scent, but the answer to that will have to wait; now all she
wants is to fall into slumber land. The smell from her bed relaxed her brains
and her muscles melt the moment she inhaled the salty ocean smell. Her thoughts
were cleared and her brains formed small pieces of puzzle and together they
merged into a beautiful dream.
--------------------
Ami found herself lying on her back, looking up at the clear night sky.
Sounds of people cheering, girls giggling and feet running can be heard.
Instinctively Ami stood; only to find herself surrounded by her friends, wearing
simple dresses and crowned their heads with varieties of flowers. They were
practically dragging her in their arms while she tried her best to not stumble.
"Stop looking at the stars Ami," Usagi giggled.
"He is waiting for you," Rei said in her unusual mystique voice which is only
reserved when she received a vision.
He? Ami thought in confusion.
Her expression betrayed her for Makoto said, "Do not play with us Ami. Your
emerald eyes general of course. He is waiting for you under the tree with the
swing."
Emerald eyes general? Before she could open her mouth to ask, her friends
pushed her under a tree that is near to what looked like a celebration where
there are people laughing, running, eating and talking animatedly.
Her vision was blocked by her friend, Mina, who gave a small kiss on her
cheek and said, "Good luck Ami and make us proud!"
Without another word from her four friends, they ran toward the celebration
where they were greeted by four men. From where she was standing, Ami could see
the activities of her friends where Mina blushed slightly when a silver-haired
man kissed her forehead; Rei was dancing with a short blond-haired man; Makoto
looked happy in the embrace of a wavy brown-haired man and Usagi was laughing
when a black-haired man tickled her with a large feather.
Ami could see the happiness in her friends' eyes and it was evident that they
were in love with these men. Her musings was interrupted when she heard noises
coming from the nearby bushes. Curiosity led her to investigate.
She wasn't sure how she had gotten there or how long has she been walking,
but the questions were quickly washed away when her eyes fell upon the beautiful
scenery in front of her: a large lake with varieties of flowers adorned its
bank.
"A beautiful sight isn't it?" said a voice.
Ami jumped slightly and turned to the direction of the voice. Blue eyes
interlocked with emerald eyes. She never thought that she has seen such
brilliant eyes before. A man stood to her right and though his body is certainly
masculine, his face has a hint of feminine features on them. They stood there
for a while looking at each others' eyes as if trying to read the other person's
mind.
"My apologies milady for startling you," said the man while giving Ami a bow.
Ami just smiled in response for she was too lost for words and reluctantly
broke the eye contact. She felt nervous and butterflies seemed to enjoy
multiplying in her stomach every minute that passed.
"Ami," at this, Ami quickly turned her head to him, but he wasn't facing her.
His eyes were fixed on something that is only visible to him.
"How did you know my name?" was the only response that managed to escape her
mouth.
"I know a lot about you than you know, but before you say anything," the man
put a finger on Ami's lips to silence her when she began to open her mouth and
then he continued, "I want you to trust me for this will alter the course of the
future Ami."
Ami was bewildered at his sudden request and seemed to have lost her voice
for she stood gaping at him.
The man gave out a sigh and said, "Stop us from going back to Earth when the
Blue Moon emerges and a black veil covered the sky. Don't... don't ever fall for
me." Confusion. Fear. Sadness. These emotion danced across her face, telling him
more than words alone. "I can't explain Ami. They won't let me tell you more
than that, but I need you to trust me please. Just promise me this I
beg you," he was pleading to her and cupped her face in his hands; softly
stroking away the silent tears that escaped her eyes.
Ami was confused; she doesn't know why she felt a great pain in her heart
when he said those words to her. She was crying and she knows not why, but the
need to understand his words were washed away when a loud explosion was heard.
Her Senshi training kicked in and instinctively Ami ran away from the man,
from the lake and to where the feast was. Fear began to creep inside her heart
as she ran and just like a mirror, her world shattered at what she saw.
People were screaming and running in every direction and a great purple flame
turned anything that crossed its path into ashes. Ami tried to transform but
couldn't and her fear grew with every passing second.
"AMI!" Ami quickly spun her head at the source of the scream. Rei was running
towards her and before Ami could move to help her friend, a dark figure loomed
over her friend and drew a sword through her.
Horrified, Ami started to run to her friend, but she was stopped by the last
person she expected to see. It was Him: the emerald eyes general. She had
forgotten about him. Now she looks intently at him, feeling very apprehensive.
He looks like Him. Ami told herself, but she noticed the malice instead
of the warmth that she had seen in his eyes.
No, this is definitely not Him. This has to be a trick! Ami
mentally told herself.
"Finished inspecting dearest Ami?" he sneered at her. Without wasting anymore
precious time, he quickly grabbed her wrists. She put up a fight like any Senshi
would, but he was too strong for her and before she realised it, sheer pain
stopped her struggling.
She fell to the ground; her gaze on the black sky above. Then she noticed the
blue moon and the starless sky that looked intensely black and bare as if a veil
has covered all the stars that once shine the heavens above. She turned her head
and saw the emerald eyes and gave out a scream before darkness overtook her
vision.
--------------------
Sound of many feet running could be heard outside the corridor and her
bedroom door swung opened. She was still screaming, tears in her eyes. Four
girls surrounded her on her bed.
"Ami wake up!" came the voice from a black haired girl who shook her hard.
Her voice was full of concern for her friend.
At the sound of her friend's voice her eyes shoot opened. She was trembling
and sweating and quickly seize the person closest to her. Her victim was a tall
lean brown haired girl. The brown haired girl rocked her friend in her arms
while saying, "It's only a nightmare Ami. Shh... It's only a nightmare.".
The other two girls who both have blond hair were looking at her with concern
evident in their blue eyes. "I'm going to call mother. Mina, you come with me.
Rei, stay here with Ami and Makoto," said a blond haired girl who has a weird
hair style that looked like two big meatballs on her head. She and her
blond-haired friend, Mina, dashed to the door and collided with a tall beautiful
woman who happened to share the same odd hair style as the blond meatball-haired
girl. The two blond-haired girls fell on the ground not able to control their
balance, but the tall woman still stands; she didn't even sway. The fallen girls
quickly get to their feet and before they could say a word, the tall woman
walked quickly to their friend's bed.
Ami was still traumatised by her nightmare and nothing that both her friends,
Rei and Makoto, do seemed to be calming her down. The tall woman sat closely
beside Ami on her bed putting her hand on Ami's forehead. She whispered words
that no-one can hear and with this a soft glow of light was emitted from her
hand. Ami's body relaxed and her mind is not as crowded with the horror of the
dream anymore. She still feels a bit tense and she looked up into the angelic
face of the woman.
"Tell me what it is that have scared you so Ami," her voice was melodious and
gentle as always and her face etched with concern.
Ami could only look at her and then turn to her four girlfriends. The woman
understood instantly and told the other four girls to wait outside Ami's room.
With the sound of the door closed, Ami cried softly. The woman quickly hugged
her.
Gathering up her courage she told the woman what she remembered from her
dreams. Truth is she remembers every detail of it and told her that she saw a
pair of green eyes and the horrors of the night. She told of the pain that she
felt; too unbearable that it felt too real to be a dream. The woman knew naught
what to make of Ami's dream. Ami is surely not a Seer, which is Rei's job, but a
feeling of foreboding hung in her heart at Ami's story. The woman did not press
further, but let Ami cry in her arms.
"Wh-wh-what does this means Queen Serenity? It's just a dream... but
why am I having such a horrible feeling about it?" Ami said in a soft voice
between sobs.
"I'm afraid I don't have the answer to that Ami. Right now I don't want you
to think of that dream. I'll have Makoto sleep with you tonight and I want you
to drink this Dreamless Draught." The woman called Queen Serenity gave a slight
movement with her hand and floating in front of Ami is a glass vial containing
the Dreamless Draught. Ami obediently drank the vial empty and then Queen
Serenity walked to the door and opened it. Four girls instantly fell to the
floor, obviously pressing their ears to the door hoping to hear the
conversation, which I might add was a failure.
"Makoto, I want you to accompany Ami for tonight. Usagi, Rei and Mina, you
can go back to your rooms. Ami will be fine with Makoto," said Queen Serenity in
a commanding but gentle voice.
"But mother, I want to accompany Ami too, please?" at this response from
Usagi (the meatball-haired girl), Rei and Mina too asked whether they can
accompany Ami. Queen Serenity smiled down at them and agreed. She knows that
even if she disagrees, they will creep from their rooms to Ami's. The girls then
dashed into Ami's room each giving Queen Serenity a quick hug and Usagi gave her
mother a kiss on the cheek. All four girls got on the bed only to realise how
small it is for them to sleep in. Queen Serenity smiled and shook her head and
with a flick of her sceptre the bed increased two times its normal size.
Together they chorused 'Good night' to Queen Serenity.
When the door and windows are closed, they all turned to Ami and gave her a
reassuring smile. No-one asked her about the dream; instead the five girls
pulled the covers to their waist and silently sing a song for Ami who is lying
between Makoto and Rei. She feels completely safe with them around and the soft
song that they sang echoed through the night, easing her troubled mind. If
anyone listened to them singing that night, their voices would certainly be
mistaken for an angle's, for the tune that they wove is so ethereal that you
feel as if you're dreaming. Ami fell asleep a few minutes later and only when
her friends are sure that she has fallen into a deep sleep did they stop singing
and went to sleep. Before Ami falls asleep, again for the last time for many
years to come, she saw the pair of brilliant emerald eyes, but this time the
eyes do not reflect evil: it is the same soft sad eyes that she first saw and
loved.
When the five girls are soundly asleep, Queen Serenity opened the door to
Ami's room and walked to the edge of her bed, watching Ami and her friends
sleeping. They looked so beautiful and innocent lying there not knowing what the
future holds for them. This gave Queen Serenity a feeling of guilt and she is
torn between the happiness of the girls and the safety of the whole universe.
She knows from the start that the girls will face a hard life and nothing is
certain for them. Love will be almost impossible for them for they have duties
to their Princess, her daughter. She has placed a huge burden on the girls'
shoulders and even if they find love, she does not want them to lose their loved
ones just like how she has lost her husband and the Senshi before them. She felt
responsible for giving them a cursed life and this hurts her more especially
since she has grown to love all four girls and treated them like they were her
own daughters.
Silent tears escape her eyes and quietly she whispered, "I'm sorry my
beautiful nightingales... Sorry for placing this burden upon all of you. I'm
Sorry..." and with that she left the room, closing the door silently.
None of the girls knew that Queen Serenity wept that night.
--------------------
There are no stars in the sky and the air smell of blood and dust floated
everywhere and the blue moon glowed in the black veiled sky. They have lost the
battle and the destruction is far from she imagined. She cannot sense the
presence of her friends anymore. They are either dead, too far or she is just
too tired and weak to sense their presence. She is lying in her own pool of
blood and she can see the faint hands of Death reaching out to her, slowly
pulling her soul from her body. It was painful, but not as painful as to see the
one you love drive a sword through you. Her murderer is standing next to her now
looking at her bloodied figure. His face looked white as snow and his eyes were
full of malice and loathing for her.
Those eyes were once beautiful and full of stars that shined only for her.
Those emerald eyes were once her lover's eyes, the ones that she has so often
fallen in love with; but now he is gone and an evil being has taken over him.
How can he betray her and how can she let herself fall for him? She should
have remembered her dream, should have believed it, but did she? No she did not.
She refused to believe that he will betray her, refused to believe in her silly
dream, anyway she is not a Seer, unlike Rei, so why should she? How can he
change so much in such a short time? Love is blind, she has to admit it. It
clouded her judgement.
"How could you do this?" she said these words with difficulty, her breathing
uneven. She struggled to breathe and at this he kneeled down and gripped her
neck.
"Because I can... milady," he laughed menacingly and tightened his grip on
her neck forcing the air out of her lungs.
She did not struggle, for her energy is spent and for the last time she
looked at those brilliant green eyes of his and breathed her last.
