New Smallville Recs by Miss Binks

Updated 5/01/03

Okay, so I figured after a few months I should update my Recs page.  However, since most of the authors that I love are already listed on the first page, I am going to assume that you (the faithful reader) have kept up on the authors that I listed and their new fics.  So, this page is intended to highlight authors that I have not recommended before, or recommended briefly.  So read on and I hope you enjoy the stories!

Them Mean Ol', Low-Down, Lando Calrissian Blues by Yahtzee is just wonderful.  Hell, I always loved all of Yahtzee's Angel fics, so this quick foray into Smallville was fun, to say the least. Would love to see more, but hey, I will happily take whatever I can get!  http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee  The link to Yahtzee's site, which has some of the cleverest design I have seen in a long time.

Normally I shy away from original characters, since Mary Sues make my skin crawl, but Lex's sister is too wonderful, but not too wonderful, if you get my meaning.  Read Sister and Brother by snuffleupagus just for the opportunity of reading a great original character.  That novelty alone is more than worth the read. http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=562036

Also, The Trousers of Time Series by sunffleupagus.  I hate to recommend unfinished works, since it's just a tease, but I am hoping that the publicity on my site (hey, quit laughing, you're here!) will convince snuffleupagus to get this fic finished.  Clever blend of canon and imagination.  Just love this series!  http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=688728

Ten Sided by Hope.  Can't say much.  Don't want to ruin it.  Loved it, loved it to death. http://www.anywherebeyond.com

An Arrangement Between Friends by Teri Leigh.  Occasionally, I like to see a little heterosexuality in my fics.  Doesn't happen often, but does happen.  Since Lana just might be the most horrific character ever created, that leaves Chloe, who I do enjoy, both on the show and in fics.  This is a great Chark.  Unfortunately, it is unfinished.  I know, two on one page, but see the above.  This story is just too good not to recommend.  http://www.memory-bliss.net/sutc/index2.html

The There Series by Alax is just wonderful.  Realistic relationship between Clark and Lex, in all their flawed glory.  The series is well worth the read, but also take a look at the rest of Alax's works.  They are all fantastic!  http://monkey.org/%7Emimi/smallville/fics.html

Weirdsville by Dayspring is just, well, I died laughing while reading this fic.  Smallville on a trailer park soap.  Fantastic story!  http://www.skeeter63.org/dayspring

The Trival Series by Kel.  I normally like my stories long, better for the development of the characters.  However, these tiny little stories have better character development than I have seen in some novels.  This series has some of the best dialogue that I have ever read, period!  http://crystalshard24.tripod.com/smallville.html

Everyone talks about Punk like they talk about the Beatles.  Being a newbie to fannish stuff in general, I was ignorant, but have now seen the proverbial light.  This story, well, it seems trivial to call it a story.  This work is fantastic, one of the best that I have ever read.  One of those works that every person should read, just because it is so, well, gorgeous.  Interstitial by Punk  http://home.teleport.com/~punkm/index.html

The Orbiting Series by RachelRhiannon is the best look at a real mature relationship between two men.  Most stories are idealized to the point where the reader knows that the story is so removed from reality that it loses it's poignancy.  RachelRhiannon's Lex and Clark are real, and beautiful and flawed and so true that would break my heart when they felt pain or joy.  I cannot recommend a series more.  http://www.geocities.com/rhiannonrave/

I checked my previous recs page three times because I couldn't believe that I had not recommended Corner of the World Series by Serafina before.  Beautifully detailed, gloriously long, unfinished but regularly updated. Serafina also created one of my favorite character's ever.  Damien is one of the most complete original characters I have ever read and the best damn manservant ever. http://www.geocities.com/serafina_eclipse/main.htm

Another hilarious story.  Karma Demands by Shrift takes a outside look at the ridiculous events that take place in Smallville, and the characters ability to accept even the most unusual as normal.  Wonderful conversation between Clark and Lex.  And the chicken-  I am still laughing about that one.  http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net

I suppose that the technical word for stories like these is meta.  Not really sure what it means, but, I love this clever crossover with The Tick.  Like Basingstoke's At the Fifteenth Annual Evil Masterminds Convention, which is linked towards the bottom of the page, Spandex Wearing Lunatics by Andariel returns Lex to an evil masterminds convention and Clark is at the superhero's convention across that street.  I can't hold back the giggles over the confused Clark speaking with The Tick before he is rescued by Lex.  Wonderful and funny story.  http://www.lexslash.com/archive/archive/0/spandexwearinglunatics.html

I know that I am not the only person who flinched when Lex told Clark that they could be brothers.  If by flinching you mean screaming at the TV and covering my eyes in anguish.  Thankfully, Henry Jones Jr. came up with a wonderful solution to that particular problem, and once again had an idea much more clever than the crap the show gave us.  Plus, Clark with his shirt off, and drunk and silly Lex, two of my most favorite things.  Combine that with the fact that it is a Henry Jones Jr. fic, which means it is excellent, and you have a great story.  Brothers by Henry Jones Jr.  http://www.lexslash.com/archive/archive/6/brothers.html

Hyper, and cuddly Clark.  A weary and slightly annoyed Lex.  Twinkies and half-nakedness in the pool.  Even a jaunt to my home state.  What is not to love?  Sugar by Hergerbabe- http://www.lexslash.com/archive/2/sugar.html

There have been a few crossover fics with Queer as Folk, but none so perfect as Small as Folk by Minnie Mala.  Clark and Lex, Brain and Justin, my four favorite boys together.  Lex using Brian and Justin to lure Clark out of the closet.  A wonderful foursome that ends with the Smallville boys together.  Very well done and really hot. http://www.lexslash.com/archive/archive/0/smallas.html

Its a clich鬠but I love wounded Lex and comforting Clark.  I am a sucker for that, and Moonlight Spike gives us this great poignant fic to please my need to see Lex hurting.  While it is not a good idea to feed my sadistic side, this story was sad enough to keep me sated for a little while.  Broken by Moonlight Spike http://kristina.dskeepers.com/

The Story of a Life (or Six) Series by Ryu I and Cassiopeia is so fabulous, I really don't have words.  I will never again play with Sharpie pens.  I never knew that buying wedding cake toppers could be such a impossible experience.   http://geocities.com/fadingmadness

Oh my God.  I have never laughed so hard in my life.  I keep a link to this story and every few days go back and read it again.  It never fails to improve the worst day.  Love this story so much, and of course it came from Shrift, the god of funny.  Uncle Einar by Shrifthttp://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net

Christmas Present and Ungay Hideaway by FlowDi.  Should have known these two stories would be fantastic.  FlowDi has this talent with conversation that is beyond wonderful.  This Clark made me laugh so much that coke came out of my nose.  Painful, but well worth it.  http://www.geocities.com/idyllictendencies

The Lost Bizarre Ass Rituals of a Kryptonian Boy by Beth is by far the funniest story ever.  Of all the options for unknown Kryptonian puberty rituals, this was by far the last thing that I ever could have imagined.  Brilliant! http://www.sparkage.illuminatedtext.com/clexicon/rituals.html
