Dev A.  BC

After visiting India and seeing children working and living on the streets without any choice,
Dev committed himself to making others aware of the importance of children's rights. He is the
Chair of a Youth Adivisory Council in his community and has helped to promote the United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as a youth representative on a public panel
during the United Nations Symposium in Victoria.
 

Carissa N.  Manitoba

A diabetic for nine years, Carissa's goal is to help other diabetics by assisting the development of new treatments. She has conducted experiments on different ways to administer insulin, and speaks to service clubs, educators and families about diabetes. She also canvasses for the Canadian Diabetes Society and in 1999 volunteered for more thin 300 hours with a number of charitable organizations.-
 

Kate H. BC

Kate has used her talent playing tie violin the fiddle to found, organize and teach at a fiddle camp for younger children. She has also performed at many  music festivals, concerts and telethons, and for nursing homes in her community. Kate is also a student coordinator helping to deliver the 'Drug Awareness for Elementary Students" program in local elementary schools-. For my goal of making a difference in the lives of others," says Kate, "I believe there is no finnish line.''
 

Michael C.  BC

 Michael, who has survived cancer twice, decided that after his personal fight was over, he would do everything he could to fight for a cure. He founded the Michael C. Foundation to raise funds for cancer research programs in Canada and has so far raised $330,000. His next goal is to have a $500,000 endowment in place in 2000, to bring a full-time childhood cancer researcher to BC Children's Hospital-.
 

Bradley T.  BC

 Bradley's interest in helping children learn to share and helping them with their special needs was demonstrated through his volunteering at a preschool in his community. He dedicated his free time during and after school to help a preschool boy with a severe speech problem and after a year of work, his friend is now talking and being understood by others.  I've accomplished all the coals I had set out to do and now I'm working on new goals," says Bradley.
 

Kristie S.  Alberta

Kristie created and started a childcare program for the small children at her church, developing lesson plans and providing a place for the children to participate in learning activities during church services.
 

Tristan H.  BC

Tristan wrote, filmed and narrated a bilingual video to help raise awareness in his community about the importance of recycling. His video was selected as a winner in a United Nations competition on Children and the Environment, which won a new Computer for his school. Tristin continues his environmental work through recycling activities such as a weekly bottle drive.
 

Jennifer M.  BC

 After learning about the devastating effects of land mines, Jennifer helped to organize a local concert to raise money and awareness about the issue. She is also involved in a youth-run poetry and art magazine, a local youth advisory committee and the North Shore Youth Health Advisory Board Recently, Jennifer began volunteering at a local mission where she serves food to thc homeless.
 

Tara M.  Alberta

 Tara is living with cystic fibrosis and is faced with the challenge of keeping her weight up. She developed and shared with others a special diet that helped her gain 14 pounds in one year. She also teaches others about CF through peer teaching, the local Children's Miracle Telethon and a local newsletter.
 

Trevor P.  Alberta

 Trevor was born with cystic fibrosis and in elementary school made annual presentations to help educate his classmates about the disease. He now speaks publicly to various groups about CF and the importance of finding a Cure soon. Trevor also attends a cystic fibrosis clinic every three months where he does his best to help new patients feel at home, as well as "buddying-up" with medical students who are learning about CF.
 

Steven P.  Manitoba

After the death of his grandparents Steven's goal was to help people live longer, healthier lives. He started a charity golf tournament that raised $4,300 in it's first year and is now an annual event in the community. Through his golf tournament, Steven has encouraged other teens to participate in charity work as well.
