Rothesay Writings May 2003
Well Noel Sharp has done it again. He just can’t be kept down. Fancy falling off a scaffold. Word has it that he has been discharged from
the PA Hospital and is doing well. We
all look forward to seeing you back at the Lodge soon and guarding the
door. Please don’t go climbing on
things again Noel.
As reported last month David Martin resigned
reluctantly but Ken Lane had the bright idea of making him an honary
member. There is a notice of motion in
the minutes to this affect. David was
delighted with the news.
Allen Barden visited South Australia recently, here
is his report:
A
Delegation of 26 brethren and 22 Ladies accompanied the Grand Master in
Adelaide for the Installation of the Grand Master of South Australia & Northern
Territory to be held on Saturday 3 May.
On
Friday night MW Bro Geoff Tucker GM hosted a welcome to Delegates held at the
Masonic Centre, North Tce enabling us to meet other Delegates and local
members. Our Grand Master responded to
the Welcome on behalf of the Visitors.
On
Saturday, Installation Day, transport was arranged from the Radison Hotel for
all attending to be transported to the Entertainment Centre at Hindmarsh,
several kilometres out of the City.
Departure was at 1-00pm.
Delegation other Orders and Interstate made official entries two at a
time .
1. Mark of SA & NT North
side, Royal Arch of SA & NT South
side
2. Queensland Western
Australia
3. Tasmania New
Zealand
4. Victoria

Wales
MW Bro
Geoffrey Tucker installed the new Grand Master MW Bro Robin Casson and all
Officers invested. All sitting Masters
in SA were then presented. A Grand
Banquet followed at the same venue, 354 attending. We returned to our Hotel at 12 pm a long but interesting day.
Sunday was a Church service at Putney Grammar School in the Assembly
Hall was most enjoyable where we had the opportunity to meet more people from
interstate and overseas.
Monday
was an opportunity to see more of a very dry SA, five buses took us to the
Clare Valley. Morning Tea was at a
Lodge in Riverton. We also stopped at
Martindale Hall a big stone Mansion where "Picnic at Hanging Rock” was
filmed. Seven Hills winery was our
destination where we had wine tasting and a Barbecue. This ended official activities.
Tuesday
evening was a visit to an Installation at St David Lodge. This is the GMs Lodge and he was the
Installing Master for a Brother. This
ceremony is different to ours. One
WM from USA said to me "I can
assure you I have been through this ceremony but it was nothing like
this". I informed him Qld was
different too. This is a Welsh Lodge
and St David was escorted into the Festive Banquet by Choristers carrying
candles singing Welsh songs where they presented the Installation cake.
Wednesday,
VW Bro Ross Holmes and his wife Maxine, who were our hosts the last time we
were in SA in 1994 and with whom we have maintained our friendship ever since,
took us on a tour around Victor Harbour and surrounds, 280 km in all. Ross is the Southern District Superintendent
and we went to Victor Harbour Lodge where the Masters Throne, Altar and the
Wardens Pedestals are carved in the local stone (very impressive). Sadly Ross had to attend that Lodge the
following Tuesday because that Lodge is handing in its Charter. The building has been sold and has become a
Gift Shop. I hope Ross and Maxine will
be here for Qld Installation next year.
