TR2-4A Engine- Piston Liner "Make-Your-Own" Clamps
by Brian Sanborn

Here are the details on the "make-your-own" clamps for holding down the piston liners during assembly of the engine.

I forgot you need 4 clamps 1 pair between cylinders 1 and 2 and the other between 3 and 4.

One pair is shorter than the other to accommodate the shorter head studs in the rear... can't remember which.

Here are the parts and measurements:

4 Pieces of 1/2 diameter x 4" long "black pipe nipples" or reasonable substitutes. Standard hardware store stuff.

Two pieces are cut to a length of 3 1/2 " the other two are shorter and must be cut to 3 1/4".

4 Old head stud nuts or borrow from the nuts you are going to use to bolt on the head.

4 3/4" flat washers (2" in outer diameter).

8 5/8" flat washers (1 3/8" in outer diameter).

The big washer goes on the bottom and covers the edge of the two adjacent liners... then one of the smaller washers ... then the pipe spacer and then another small washer... and the big nut on top.

This tool works great... just like the "special tool" in the workshop manual. And it's real cheap to cobble together.
