'Amelie', Michelle Branch among E-Crap's 2001 Winners
HAZLET, N.J.--(Green Light Ventures, Inc.) – Dec. 18 – French film "Amelie" and 18-year-old Arizona singer/songwriter Michelle Branch were among the big winners as popular website E-Crap.com announced their annual "best of" lists for movies, music, TV, and books for 2001.
"It was a great year for movies," commented Dave Kosciolek, E-Crap’s owner and main editor. "’Amelie’ was one of perhaps four films that could have taken the top prize, but as far as feel good movies go, none of the others matched it." Among the films receiving honorable mention were "Moulin Rouge", "Mulholland Drive", and "Ghost World."
According to Kosciolek, music did not have the same strong year as movies. "2001 was not a great year for new music. The best thing to come out of the year was Michelle Branch. We have featured her prominently on our site since before the release of ‘The Spirit Room’." Branch broke through with her popular song "Everywhere", which made E-Crap’s list of best songs as an honorable mention choice.
Alternative-pop band Blink 182 shared Best Song ("The Rockshow") honors with NJ native Pete Yorn ("For Nancy"). "There were some great songs, but less great CD’s," added Kosciolek. "It was great to have some NJ natives like Pete Yorn and James Gandolfini make the lists. Our site is more popular throughout the country than it is in NJ, and hopefully this will help bring more local attention."
Somerset, NJ resident and Rutgers alumnus James Gandolfini plays NJ crime boss Tony Soprano on the HBO original series "The Sopranos", which was the runaway winner for Best TV Show.
