CLIST Programming

(a 2-day course)

Course objectives
The students will learn how to efficiently write, debug, and maintain CLISTs. The course combines theory with practical exercises.

Audience
System programmers and operations analysts.

Prerequisites
You need to be acquainted with TSO and PDF, for instance after having attended the Job Control Language (JCL) course.

Class infrastructure
The students must have access to an OS/390 or z/OS system and logon under TSO.

Course contents
- CLIST statements
- Symbolic variables and control variables
- Operators and expression evaluation
- Built-in functions
- Subprocedures, nested CLISTs, local and global variables
- TSO commands ALLOCATE, ALTLIB, CALL, EXEC, FREE, LISTCAT, LISTDS, PROFILE, SUBMIT, ...
- JCL generation
- etc.
