In the beginning we installed Windows for Workgroups 3.11 as network operation system, later it upgraded to Windows NT 3.5, Windows NT 3.51 and finally to Windows NT 4.0.
The LAN was using UTP cable in a Star Bus topology. There were 7 Active Hubs used to connect the computers, a 28.8 Kbps Modem (Hayes) connected to the RAS Server, a Router (3Com) over DDS line (56Kbps) connected to a WAN (Beijing's Universities Network). We installed Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation 4.0 at stations, installed Windows NT Server 4.0 at servers. There were 7 Servers and 49 workstations. The servers are PDC, BDC, File & Print Server, Mail & Fax Server, RAS Server, Web & Proxy Server and MS SQL Server. The default protocol of the LAN is TCP/IP. I used DHCP, WINS to manage IP address configuration, used MS SQL Server 6.5 to support a MS SQL database development group and used Microsoft Internet Information Server to maintain a Wed Site for the LAN. The total users on the LAN reached 150 peoples.
After the project finished, I was assigned as administrator to provide professional performance tuning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, software installation and upgrades; I also provided user training and technical supports for the all application softwares running on the LAN.
During the time I was an administrator,I also designed and setup a Web site for our company. I installed Microsoft Internet Information Server as the Web server to administer the Web site. The following tools also are used during setup and the development of Home Page: Microsoft FrontPage 97 and VBscript.
