What Is Faith?
Journal

1) Explain the major key idea of the section.

The main idea of this section is the faith in our lives. The key aspect focuses on our faith in our world around us, and our Faith in God and the Church. According to our freshmen year text, faith is a belief and trust in someone or something. We put this faith in people around us, and if we put our faith in those things which are truly worth while, this will help us to be able to live a more fulfilled life. We also put our faith in God and his Church. This decision to do so helps us live more fully in the life of God and helps our relationship with Him grow. Our faith and Faith in life defines who we are and how we act every day.

2) List and explain two of the most important ideas you want to remember from this section.

One of the most interesting things that I came across in this section is that faith seeks understanding. I think that this is a very important part in our lives, not only as Christians, but also as human beings. When we have faith in someone, we, as humans, would not be satisfied with just letting things be as they are; but instead, we search for a greater knowledge about that person. We become more and more interested in that person, and we continue to explore and gain an even greater understanding of that person and the faith we have in them. I don’t think that I could put my faith in someone and then not follow up it and learn more about who I was putting my faith in. If we didn’t try to gain a greater understanding, then we would run the risk of putting our faith somewhere mistaken, and then we would possibly get hurt. But when we investigate to learn more about where we invest our faith, we become sure that our faith is rooted in a strong foundation of trust and belief.

Another part of this section that I think is important is that we do not create our own Faith. We cannot earn it or work towards it. Instead, God gives us Faith so that we can grow in our relationship and love with him. It is completely free and underserved because God wants us to be a part of his life because he loves us. Faith is a sign of God’s love for us because it shows us that he wants to be with us. We would never have known of his love if he hadn’t shown it first, and the tool that he gave us to see his love for us is Faith. If there is no Faith, there is no God because everything that we know about God has been derived out of our Faith in him.

4) How does this apply to me here and now?
Private If I was to be truthful, I would say that I have a very weak Faith, but a pretty strong faith in those who are close to me. I rarely think about God and how he affects my life. I don’t know what it is, but I am having trouble believing in God. I think I still have some Faith in Him because of my ability to get through a though situation this past weekend, though I think that had to do a lot with my faith in my close friends too. One of my close friends who was with me helped me stay strong in my beliefs and decisions to not be influenced, and I have a feeling God was very much there with me as well, which I am very thankful for. I think through that event I have grown in my Faith and faith in God and my close friends. Because of my trust in God and knowledge of what is right, I chose the right decision, and stayed away from trouble. I had faith in God and my friend that we could make it through the night and remained happy and faithful even in our dreary situation.
