THE TRENDIES & KEVIN CHASEK

LIVE FEBRUARY 13TH, 2000 DUFFY'S TAVERN

This was a fantastic show at the bar with with my favorite jukebox in town.

Kevin Chasek [ Wasteoid / formerly of Luck of Aleia ] played a fine acoustic set, with plenty of guitar tuning solos. The songs were pensive, full of passion & played well despite Kevin's sore fingers (he'd spent the day recording).

The set was capped of with a Valentine's Day cover of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn". I've never heard this song live, so it was fun(ny)!

Lincoln music is varied & eclectic, but you may be hard pressed to find some pure pop noise streaming from the windows of bars. But, don't fret, The Trendies are here to change that. I was treated to their flickering movie projections & beautiful melodic tunes with plenty of feedback. Very Sonic Youth, very I'm in a band.

Booming treble & cool visuals to "carry the band if we're playing badly!", as Matt Silcock said in an interview about the performance. A mission statement for this band might be: "Death to Grunge. The genre, not the sound.", according to Matt.

They played a noisy (of course ) Velvet Underground cover, & beamed people in the heads with delicious V-Day candy packets. I hope you'll be there next time to see & hear their crazy art antics.

The Trendies are: Eric Aspengren - Vocals, Guitar / Matt Silcock - Guitar, Vocals / Malcom Miles - Bass / Ryan Krumel - Drums .
